I feel like i'm depressed but don't know what to do about it, I have a small child and think that if I were to be put on anti depressants that I wouldn't be able to look after him, my partner doesn't understand, I found this list and feel like I have most of the symptoms on it, I haven't gone to my GP but he's the type who would prescribe absolutely anything for anyone so i'm pretty sure if I walked in there tomorrow ill walk out with a prescription for an anti depressant and i'm not sure if i'm ready for that, I found a list online and all the following apply to me out of the list, the one thing I don't feel is suicidal, hence my reluctance to go on any anti depressants

    http://www.angelfire.com/ca/iloveDave/symptoms.html

From the list on that website i've copied the ones I actually experience,

persistent sad, anxious, or empty feelings
    loss of interest in activities
feelings of hopelessness and pessimism, guilt or worthlessness
    insomnia and oversleeping
    appetite loss or overeating
    fatigue
    restlessness
    irritability
    difficulty concentrating or remembering
    persistent headaches

    withdrawl,
    inactivity,
    tire easily,
    excessive sleep,
    poor appitite,
    irritability,
    poor ability to concentrate,
    cry easily,
    despondent,
    inability to experience pleasure,
unable to do what you normally do,
    anxiety, agitation,
    sore shoulders and neck,
    low libido,
    eat junk foods,
    inability to show affection,
    void of emotions,
    everything seems disorganized,
    hair becomes wiry,
    have trouble getting dressed,
feelings of regret for past decisions,
    not wanting to do anything,
    inability to function,
    low energy level,
    talk little,
    insomnia,
stay in bed for long periods,
    nausea,
    low self-esteem,
    lack of interest in everything,
    ache all over,
    headache,
    trembling,
    paranoia,
    craving for carbohydrates,
    easily frustrated,
    avoid people,
    feel clumsy,
    drop things,
start wearing a coat all the time,
    eyesight does not seem right,
    skin problems

I have zero energy, zero drive, don't feel much, my emotions are very very muted, I ache everywhere, I get shooting pains in my hands all the time.

    What can I do

We are neither qualified nor allowed to diagnose you. If you think you have depression, or indeed any concerns about your health, then you need to tell a professional your symptoms rather than googling them.

If you aren't happy with your current doctor or don't like their approach to depression then change your doctor.

    All the best.
