VW Electric Auxiliary Air Heater

    Howdy folks,

First off if this is a bit of a dosey question but my automative expertise is limited, so sorry about that. I'm looking at getting a new VW and given the problems i had over the winter with getting the windscreen clear during the cold morning and evening (even scraping the ice of the window new really clears fully, it's still kind of foggy) i'm looking at if there's anything available that might help with this. unfortunately they don't have the option of a heated windscreen but i have noticed that the diesel engines have an "Electric Auxiliary Air Heater" as standard. I'm just curious as to what this is, my assumption is that it's a glorified fan heater somewhere under the dash and will ensure warm air to clear the windows without having to wait for the engine to heat up (or even without the engine on at all) but i'm curious to know how well it works. I assume it's standard with all the diesels so i'm hoping someone who has experience of it will be able to give me some "feedback" on how effective (or not) it is?

Sorry i appreciate the post is a bit all over the place but any and all help (assuming you can actually decypher what i'm getting at) would be appreciated.

    Thanks
