Do you believe in them?me,i always thought that there is logical explanation behind all those spooky events that occur from time to time but this evening i was really taken back.

I was in a friends apt eariler and we were both sitting down chatting away when suddenly the kettle begains to make a noise, started to heat the water in it,with that gill(who's a really hot piece of ass and not been laid in a while, before ye ask, pervs)gill jumps up to switch off the kettle and says,oh never mind that, its our ghost,it does things like that from time to time :eek: WTF so i go over to check it out, maybe the button is a bit faulty, maybe its just old and fell down under its own weight(i know i know im cluching at straws here) but no,the button is in perfect condition,i cant figure it out.

So ah can somebody please please give me a logical explaination as to what happened tonight and feel free to throw in your own unexplained storys.

Never saw or heard anything to indicate the existence of ghosts, so no not really. I believe a lot of experience people have are when they are in bed which i assume to be sleep paralysis.

My kettle does that too ..I don't put it down to ghosts though.
Also, I do think they exist, but not to help me make a cup of tea.

I want to believe this but im no stranger to electrical appliances,iv'e never seen "stuff" in switches to cause them to just turn on.

Although this thread should perhaps be better suited to the paranormal forum. Its an interesting subject. I would believe in ghosts more than i would say a god which controls everyones only move or is listening to everyone. A ghost is supposed to be energy sealed into the fabric of a building and can appear but it can't interact with you.

    Good subject in general though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,230 ✭✭✭Wetbench4

you could just use one of those timers that goes in the socket. Leave the kettle switched on and full of water and then set the timer to come on when you have vistors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

theres a lot of kettles that do that seemingly, so either all ghosts like making tea, or else limescale build up is messing with the element.

I know someone who's convinced they have a ghost coz the TV turns itself on. The reality is, they record stuff on the video but never hit stop, so the tape gets full. By default, the video player rewinds the tape once it gets to the end, so at that stage it becomes active. Since it has "Scart Control" it automatically activates the TV and turns on the scart channel. If she'd turn the TV off completely, instead of just the red dot mode, it'd never happen. Seemingly ghosts cant control power buttons (except in kettles), but can control the innards when its in sleep mode!

Yes definitley a ghost. Its the most logical conclusion.

Was she boiling the kettle for tea or for coffee?

nope we had been sitting down for about 20 mins having beers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,571 ✭✭✭Aoifey!

I do believe in ghosts, but I think some people put down any unusual events to ghosts rather than looking for a more reasonable explanation.

    In this case, I don't think it's a ghost.

Do really think the most likely explanation for this even is interference from an undying human soul, the spiritual remnant of someone passed, shackled to some random chick's apartment, who makes his/her presence know to the living by switching on electrical appliances every now and then?

EDIT: Fair enough, seems you don't.

for people who dont know ... your brain is fully awake and your eyes are open
but you CANNOT move your body at all
it could last for 10 / 20 minutes ( i think ) , you can scream but nothing happens

when i used to get these events i would get so upset i would start seeing the " bogey man " , think hooded monk
you can imagine the sheer terror of not being able to move and think some cloaked freddie kruger is in the room - very weird thing to happen when your 8

but ghosts ... no dont think so , the dead are dead
buy a new kettle and it will stop

Had you told us that the kettle turned on even though it wasnt plugged in, then you woud have had a story.
Had the water in the kettle turned to blood, then you would have had a better story.
Had the blood in the kettle began to shoot out while choirs of prepubescent schoolboys sang scary churchy songs, then you would have had a cracking story.
    Plus a heartattack too, probably.

As none of that happened, Id say its a faulty kettle.

    ...switching on a kettle...pffftt....

If you want to impress the people, do the fu**in wash up...

I like how ghosts just bollix around with kitchen appliances. No danger they'd do something useful like hassle Seanie Fitz or some of those cúnts. No fúckarse around with some poor hoors jug kettle.

    Good lads ghosts yer mighty.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭Yahew

Id say there are two solutions to this.

    1) there is life after death, but you stay in particular house for hundreds of years where you amuse yourself by pissing around with electrical equipment every so often, but dont bother with much else.
    2) faulty switch.

Is it really that common a misconception.

Have you ever been to Loftus hall,if i was ever to see a ghost it would be there, scary place if you believe in ghosts or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,084 ✭✭✭dubtom

I'd say you have a ghost alright, and I recon that one of these days it's going to turn on the kettle when there's no water in it and burn the house down, the cnut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

    No thats a common misperception.

So they just give a more conventional finger??? :pac:

What have Titanic and The Sixth Sense got in common? Icy dead people :pac:

I actually am a ghost, but I use my abilities to move in several dimensions of time and space without physical limits just to fúck with kettles. For really evil days, I might knock on Ray D'arcy when you're least expecting it.

The kettle in my old flat did that a couple of times. Some sort of loose connection, I imagine; nothing more.

I suffered from this for a few years and it's something I never want to revisit again, people who never experienced this will never know how bad this is. I got to a stage where I had to move out of a few apartments as I was convinced they were haunted. Eventually it got so bad I asked a priest about it thinking I was possessed or been targeted!! Thankfully he had heard of this before and sent me to a doctor who had to put me on heavy sleeping tablets to stop it, eventually it stopped.

As for ghosts I believe in them but I don't believe they go round popping the kettle on.
