first post in here hopefully someone can help...
I picked up an imac a few months back for next to nothing, very good condition and working perfectly. its running os9 and i am curious if i can go up to a more recent os? picked it up with the intention of running a few emulators mame ect. so just need it to work with usb drives joypads etc.
anyone able to point me in the right direction? not looking for copied disks but dont want to purchase a legit disk if it isnt compatible..which leads me on to the next question, where can you pick up older legit os disks?

Depends on the exact model and you'll need to make sure you have enough RAM, but it should definitely be able to run the latest version Panther (Mac OS 10.3). I'm not sure about Tiger, I doubt it.

Have a look on Ebay for the discs. I'd send you my old copy of Panther but I seem to have lost it.

Don't forget you can only buy system disks in 'full' versions (10.3, 10.4) and update.
Also don't buy the grey (system specific) disks because they wont install on older Macs.
