Are these open to anyone in the age bracket or is there a certain elite standard you need to meet to be able to compete in them?

Well I was thinking the longer distances like 5000 metres or 10,000 metres. I don't know much about them but I was just wondering what type of people compete in them and how good do they have to be.

    no standards.
check out results from previous competitions.
Athletics Ireland site and Munster site usually have times in the results for track events, not sure about other sites.
From what I've seen of masters events, there is usually a very mixed standard so I'd guess you'd find people in or around the same time as you.

    Cheers.

Well I'm pretty unfit still so I wouldn't even dream of entering myself for one of these. Perhaps in a year or so when I'll hopefully be about 5 stone lighter and a lot fitter. But that's why I was wondering did the people have to be super-fit/elite as I will probably never be at that level.

Here's the results from the Irish Masters T&F last August http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/masters-track-and-field-men.pdf The track events go up to 5000m and V1 are the 35-39 age group.

It's a great day out. I had a ball doing the throws in 2009 with a great bunch of guys.
