Ok, I know there is a thing called a 40 day blowdry or something, where you can get totally straight hair that lasts with no need for straightening, I have shoulder length hair and was quoted 150 euro..
Then I wondered if I could do this my own way - I bought some setting lotion, you know the type that they squirt onto rollers for old ladies sets...
I towel dried my hair and applied the lotion to damp it all down, so my hair was really damp, (its only 1.99 a bottle, one bottle would do you two goes)
Then I GHD'd my damp hair...
This has literally lasted DAYS and im really pleased with the results.
Havent needed to use straighteners yet anyhow...

Did the GHD not singe your damp hair?

I think you're the bravest person I've ever heard of.

What's your hair type like naturally?

    Thin hair?
    Naturally straight-ish?
    Naturally curly/wavy?

Ive often used a perming lotion but rather than putting rollers in you just comb the hair straight, wash and blowdry. Lasts till it grows out great for frizzy hair too.
Using a ghd on damp hair wouldnt be very good to the hair tbh

Anyone tried John Frieda's 3 Day Straight Semi Permanent Styling Spray? Good reviews on YouTube.

It's apparently great for straightening curly, frizzy hair. You wash hair, apply the product, blow dry hair and finally run straighteners through the hair to activate the product. Hair is supposed to stay glossy and smooth and straight for 3 days.

The idea of straightening damp hair makes me cry. You know that hissing sound you hear? That's the sound of the water in your hair evaporating. You'd destroy the condition of your hair if you do that regularly!

my hair is extremely curly, I just normally wash it, blowdry it (not straight) then a few hours later run myghd through it and its perfectly straight, because my hair is dry enough I just lash dry shampoo in it going to bed and comb it out in the morning. My straightened hair is in better condition now then it was leaving it curly using john fredia products

Scott Cornwall of Colour b4 fame has a new straightening product out which lasts up to 3 months. It's on introductory special offer in Sam McCauley's at the moment. I haven't tried it myself but it might be worth a look if you tire of the setting lotion :)

I had the 12 week blowdry done a while ago - once the girl had applied the product, she blow-dried my hair roughly before using the GHDs. I can't imagine using GHDs on damp hair.

I've tried it, didn't find it much good to be honest.

On the bottle/box it says to use 7-15 sprays but to be honest I found that too much (for me anyway). I found 7 sprays too much, it left me hair 'sticky' (not sure if I am describing it right), I use 3-4 sprays and find that's enough, maybe thats why I don't find the product good for straightening though, 'cause I use a lot less than they recommend.

I definitely wouldn't pay €9 for the product though. I was lucky got mine when they had the two products for €9 offer on.

I use these products and find they work really well.

John Frieda Frizz - Ease Straight Ahead Style Activating Shampoo

John Frieda Frizz - Ease Straight Ahead Style Activating Conditioner

This is my favourite though - it works a treat and leaves me hair so soft. I use it once a week.

If you can, put a towel on a radiator/whatever (something that will make it warm) and when you have the masque on your hair, wrap the warm towel around your hair and leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse out the masque.

The masque is expensive though, around €9 for the tub, but I think there is an offer on in Boots at the minute "two products for €9 euro".

John Frieda Frizz - Ease Miraculous Recovery Pot Strengthening Crème Masque

I've used this product but didn't find it much use, it does have a slight effect, but the masque is much better in my opinion.

    John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straightening Potion

Also the shampoo and conditioner (the straight ones) are cheaper in Dunnes Stores than in Boots.

In Boots I think the shampoo and conditioner are around €7-€8 euro, in Dunnes they are about €5.

Sometimes if I apply a heat-protecting balm or spray my hair makes that hissing sound when I straighten it. Should I leave the heat-protecting spray dry into my hair before straightening?

You could try this at home straightening kit. It's by the maker of Colourb4, and called Super Straight. There are 2 types available depending on wether your hair is coloured or not. here is a link: http://www.scottcornwall.com/shop/product/str8-forward-super-straight

Totally depend on your hair type there is no issue with using highest temperature with damp hair for me I do it all the time but I`m mixed race so my hair is differnt.

The 12 week/brazilian blowdry is actually only a treatment in those countries where it was always used - your hair isn`t actually straightened its just sealed with keratin/protein to smooth the folicles for a while which is why it wears off.

I had my hair permanently straightened about 2 months ago and its awsome I can`t believe it. I can just wash my hair and leave if I want  for me its literally unbelievable after battling with my hair my whole life. Only 120e and I can`t recommend where I had it done enough. It has been life changing for me.

LOL..NO, my hair did not singe or go dry, I use a proper GHD and I dont see how this is different from those 'new' Wet to Straight things you can buy now..(does anyone know?)
If anything my hair has sat nice and flat and behaved itself.
Its not a process I would recommend if you love your GHD, maybe it could hurt it, but my hair wasnt soaking wet, just damp.:D

I used to have a wet to straight, they have vents which lets the steam out.

It's not necessarily the damp hair which I was curious about but the setting lotion on it, are you not essentially cooking the lotion into your hair with 200 degree heat?

That's how I thought you would damage it.

Have you washed your hair since?
