Euro Coins are great to collect but will they ever be worth anything?

That's one hell of a broad question. Depends which ones is the only answer to that, some have already shot up in value, some haven't. Basic law of economics applies, supply & demand.

Sorry, maybe i should have been a bit more specific, i assume that say the normal run of the mill German coins are only worth their face value due to the massive amount that must be minted.

Are Irish coins more collectable overseas due to their (relativly) limited number?

Which coins have gone up in value and why?

I could write an essay on this but I'll try and be brief. Generally speaking collectors of Euro coins will want them uncirculated and not coins pulled out of your pocket. A coin with so much as a fingerprint is no longer "UNC". Circulated Euro coins generally are not worth anything over face unless they are particularly scarce, for example a circulated Finland 2 euro coin from 2002 could still cost you 10 euro in good condition. Monaco Euros even circulated will always fetch more than face value, because of their small mintage.

It's only really UNC Irish Euros that have a higher value than most other Euro countries, partly due to the smaller mintages but also due to the fact that the central bank here since 2007 charge their dealers twice the face value for uncirculated sets of loose coins. UNC loose coin sets from 2007 onwards have a market value of around 15 Euro even though their face value is only 3.88 Euro.
