I'm close to 2 seasons behind, and don't know if I'll bother catching up.

But looks like next year might be the last year for 'House':
House is also in troublesome negotiations with the budget needing a 20% slash due to the falling rating. Next season is expected to be its final season and it is likely supporting cast members will appear in less episodes. Weekends at Bellevue is eyed as a possible successor for House.

In my opinion, House is the best thing on TV at the moment. But great TV only stays great for so long. Look at the Simpsons. Its often hard when a show is doing great to cancel it, but in the long run it can be a good idea for the franchise to leave on a high note. It also leaves the door open for a continuation or a spin off.

The West Wing, my all time favourite show ended on a poor season. Nowadays when I rewatch it, I dont watch that season because I know how it ends, and it damages the viewing experience.

Up until the 3rd season Lost was my favourite show, but they should have wrapped it up in season 4. Instead they added a load of fluff and then didnt know how to end it. The result: I dont/wont rewatch lost. I dont/wont buy any lost merchandise. I felt betrayed by the ending. I'll admit it left a hole in my life, and nothing has really replaced it. Had it ended when it was great, and explained at least some of the magic, then I would rewatch it, and I would buy merchandise, and the show would live on. Instead lost is dead to me.

S7 has been a great season. In many ways a lot more quirky than other seasons, but I think it is gearing up for a great 8th and final season. Do Cuddy and House ride off into the sunset together? Does Taub and his wife get back together? Does Wilson hook up with someone? Answer those questions and end it. Let it end on a high note. It leaves a spin off a plausible possibility and the viewership open to a spin off, if the franchise finished while it was still fresh. Flog the franchise to death and any spin off, is doomed to failure.

Massive drop off in quality a few seasons ago. This season has seen a slight improvement over those before it but it is long past time that we bid farewell to Dr. Gregory House. Maybe he can go out with a bang if they agree on a deadline.

Can't really see anything stepping up to fill the gap...

It seems to have lost a lot of viewers after House and Cuddy got together. That storyline had so much potential but was terrible. I watched the start of season 7, but switched off after 4/5 episodes for three reasons.
    1. Sky One kept interspersing the new season with repeats so I'd switch on and they'd be an old episode on, when I was expecting a S7 one.
    2. House and Cuddy. YAWN. Cuddy constantly trying to turn him into the partner she wanted him to be, did she not know him well enough by then to accept him as he was? She KNOWS what he's like already!
    3. Dr. Masters really annoyed me with her shrill, holier than thou ways.

I've started watching again since House and Cuddy broke up. 13 is back, House is back on Vicodin.. it's sooo much better! But I think they should end it soon, rather than draaaaging it out because that would be a sad end to an amazing show. :(

    7x21 'The Fix'

Not entirely sure what to make of last night's ep. I mean,
    SPOILER:
it was good that House wasn't in many of the team meetings. I liked that. WTF is he doing now, experimental rat stuff...yeah, he's an addict so it's not unexpected and he's being an arse, but even being an arse to Wilson, whilst nothing new, annoyed me a little. Even with all this going on, I'm not sure what headspace he's in at the moment. Obviously he's in a lot of pain which usually makes for good TV.

As for the promo for next week...

I don't tend to watch promos...give too much away
Him being a total arse to Wilson is undoubtedly due to the experimental drug.... It's hinted at a couple of times, and that they give so much detail about it not being human tested yet....

Mood swings in a rat would be a little hard to detect :D "The rat appears pissed off..."

Damn, I posted in the wrong thread. Meant to post in the general series 7 one. :o

As for season 8 being the last, that would be welcome. I outlined some of my grumbles about the show in this post.

I didn't think much of this episode although I have definitely enjoying the season so far.

House has changed over the past few seasons, the series and the character. If it was kept the same as the first three seasons I don't think I would have kept watching with as much enthusiasm.

    Season 8 confirmed.

Some cast members' deals still to be made.

I didnt watch the promo but the final third arc of House in pain/Drug Madness/Proper Madness is fairly par for the course.
    I'm thinking Rat Drug coma?
I have to say I quite enjoyed the fix

Just finished watching the last season. It does go a bit mad but is funnier and more interesting. Not sure what can happen in the next season, maybe there isnt a need for one? I think it would be pretty cool to leave us all hanging on that last episode...

From what I've read, season 8 is definately the last. It seems as though in America, ABC produce House and Fox air it but ABC have undergone some changes, if my memory serves me, a company bought into them and in order to save on money, they wanted the cast of House to take a pay cut and for Fox to help the funding for the show, which isn't going to happen. I think I read that there is an ongoing lawsuit or some kind of battle at the moment, in the courts, between those two companies so they don't have the best relationship anyway!

I also read about it being hard to get some cast members signed up. One has left (I don't know how to black out spoilers and I'm writing this on my phone so forgive me if I ruin anything!!) and one had arranged to do something else but signed at the last minute! All but one of the cast are in next season :)

As for my opinion on it being the last, I have mixed reactions to it. At first, I thought, "Wow...That sucks, I wish it wasn't true..."

But, after having a wee think, I realise it is probably the best time to bow out. I think with a show like House, it starts off more about the patients. It then progressed through the seasons to have a balance of the case and personal lives. I think the balance is almost the essential thing, but with House, they went a bit too far into the personal lives and I think that resulted in a lot of people being put off the show.

The whole "Huddy" thing had to happen as it was being hinted at for a long time. If they drag it on, nobody cares. However I do feel saddened that it had to go there when it did. I think the direction the show had gone made it difficult not to approach that angle but I think even though it seemed to be what viewers were waiting on, House changed dramatically as a person and he wasn't the House we all wanted.

The last episode of that season left me grinning, I had a huge grin and I actually laughed with a mixture of disbelief and joy, but it made me wonder where House goes from now.

I think the last season will be one of outrageous and yet thrilling moments. I think it'll be a rollercoaster of laughs and drops of cringe worthy, dark emotion. I predict (and I'm by no means any expert) that the last season will be one not to be missed. I personally only see one ending to the show that is fitting for House but even in that, I hope I'm wrong!

You mean his death? Don't see that happening. In the end this is the USA-land of eternal crazy optimism . Eight seasons is more than enough for any show. Though I would like to see a few more Wilson episodes . How much do they pay him I wonder?

If this year is really the last we'll see of House MD, someone needs to make the Stephen Fry cameo happen. Pronto.
