    I'm on JSA.

My best friend has bought return flights €38 to Manchester to see a play as my birthday present.

I'm only gone for the day, should I ring welfare and let them know in case someone (I live in a VERY small town at the mo) dobs me in?

There is no need to let welfare know, you are only going for the day.

I know I sound like a paranoid android but what would happen if someone (99%) positive certain lady that works in dol office will know I'm going?

Don't even worry about, sure the polish community just fly home once a month to sign on and get paid into their bank account every week.

While on the SW you are entitled to be on holidays for 14 days each year, as long as it is not during a sign on date, you are fine. You are allowed a day trip to Manchester. If you feel better telling them, then do, they won't take too much notice. :)

I work in a sw office and tbh and dont be insulted by this but I would laugh at you if you came into me to declare you were going to the Uk to see a show for one day. If you really feel that this person would cause problems for you then go to your sw office and let them know... the worst case scenario is that you fill out a holiday form for the day.

This is totally incorrect... they do not get their money paid into their bank accounts... it has to be collected in the post office.

Its actually 12 days paid holidays while on Jobseekers... if on One Parent Family its 18 days.

Yes Im very sure of it... very few Polish people on sw long term(of course that depends on what you consider long term) and almost 99.99% from my own experience are post office payments.

You work in cork though don't you ? Things are slightly different in dublin, we had 200,000 eastern europeans living here at the peak. A huge percentage of them are still paid into their bank accounts.

    Have a read of this

Well if you know of people flying in once a month to sign on report them. You state 200000 at the peak... most of those if they are in receipt of sw payment would not be long term and would not be put on bank payments... tbh... i find that a lot of eastern europeans can find jobs out of nowhere and more often than not one member of the family is working even if it is casual.. they have a good work ethic... obviously you will find people no matter what nationality will not go out and find work... e.g. 140000 on live register in Ireland when we had to bring people in from eastern europe to fill the jobs gap in the good times.
