Last years thread including poll results

Just a plug about our annual road race where more details can be found below on the link below. We have taken on board some recomendations and gone for an AAI measured course of 4 mile on the same course just 89mtrs less running on the traditional loop. This will be the first time in the 32 years that it will measure exactly 4miles. Also on the day will be a designated photographer who will take as many pictures as possible and put on race pix or relevant sites. Anyone with other recomendations don't be afraid to contact us.

TINRYLAND AC 4 MILE ROAD RACE (ROCKFORD ROOFTILE )
In 1980 the local commitee of Tinryland AC decided to organise a local race in the area of Tinryland on the outskirts of Carlow town. The first race was won by the legendary Johnny Bolger of Crusaders who was to go on and win the first edition of the Dublin Marathon. Roll on to 2011 and the 32ND running of this event sponsored by Dan Morrissey Ltd since its inception will be held at 5.30 pm in Tinryland village, Co. Carlow on Saturday the 27th August. Also at 5pm there is a 1 mile fun event for all children up to the age of 15 years. The traditional course lap of the parish measured at 4 miles and 89 meters, and this year the local committee have decided to go with the same course as previous years but have made the race 4 miles exactly as it has been IAAF measured to ensure all athletes achieve there personal goals. Over the years the roll of honour includes a who’s who of Irish athletics; Jerry Kiernan, Dave Taylor, Marcus O’Sullivan and in recent years Peter Riley, Peter Matthews and last years winner Andrew Ledwith. On the Female side Catherina Mckiernan, Maria Mcambridge and Linda Byrne are some of the top class international names who have won the Rockford.
But don’t worry the real athletes we are after, are the athletes who just want to run / walk and enjoy the atmosphere in a local run, accurately measured and organised in a professional and safe manner where all runners are treated the same. Last year's race had the highest entry to date with over 200 runners toeing the line and this year we hope to exceed this number and to put Tinryland back on the map. Tinryland is a club rich in tradition for producing top class athletes and over the years has produced many national champions and international athletes. Athletes of the caliber of Tommy Payne (World Hill running Team medalist) , Denis Shannon, Pat Corcoran (only local winner), the Murphy brothers and in recent years Pat Byrne. On the women’s side Tina Doyle was an International Hill runner and in recent years local stars Deirdre Doyle and Mary Ann O’Sullivan are flying the flag at the very top level of Irish athletics.
So with this tradition of producing top level athletes combined with top level organisation skills ensures that the ‘’Rockford’’ is among the top road races in the country. This is a fun event where all ages will start together in a mass start and all finishers receive a medal. Last year a huge number of local runners / walkers and fit for life competed and raised a large amount of money for local charities and sporting organisations. So why not come along and have a chance of winning our super spot prizes and enjoy our unique road race. A local DJ will add to the atmosphere in the village by playing music in the local square. In recent years there has been a huge surge in race promoters putting on expensive races where the normal runner gets nothing in return. With this in mind and after the success of last years spot prizes, we have decided to continue with the Top class spot prizes which will be restricted to non individual prize winners who finish the 4 mile event. Included in these prizes is the opportunity to win a fantastic €1,000 holiday voucher which is valid for 1 year. A 26 inch Panasonic wide screenLCD TV, a Digital Camera, a Luxury weekend for two and €200 jewellery Voucher. All usual cash prizes for Seniors Male and Females, Masters and Team prizes.
Post race activities include refreshments where a wide selection of food will be available free of charge for all. Race video, presentations, spot prize draw and showers in the local GAA centre .So calling all runners /walkers and spectators to come along and support our race and to enjoy a great atmosphere in Tinryland, Co.Carlow. Online entry is available with runireland.com till midnight Wed 24th August for only €10 (credit charge included) or enter on the day for €15 from 4pm on race day in the local parish hall. Race numbers will be distributed on race day. A mini Rockford will start at 5pm for all juveniles under the age of 15 this is a fun event with all juvenile finishers receiving medals. If interested look us up on Facebook - Tinryland Road Race and follow our training schedule or contact Sean at 0872509520 for more details. Hurry up and enter only 8 weeks left to race day.

a little less than 5 weeks to our annual road race and we seem to have a good local response. just a note in relation to our annual autumn league will start on:
    leg 1- Wed 7th Sept 2 miles at 7.30pm
    leg 2-Wed 14th Sept 5km at 7.15pm
    leg 3-Fri 24th Sept 2 miles at 7pm

Again sposored by Jason Farrell sports prizes in all usual categories. Nominal fee of €5 each leg. Note the times for each race as it gets darker each evening (winter approaching).

i think that series the Rockford Files would only be known by our older runners, don't think our younger runners would be familiar. The only reason our race was called the Rockford was after Dan Morrisseys best selling tile of 32 years ago. Just in case anyone wondered why that unusual title

Can someone rate this for me hills wise rating 1 to 10

wouldn't be classed as a hilly course. first mile all downhill super fast,1- 2 mile all flat except for short rise over flyover, between 2 and 3 there is a climb at about 2 1/2 but is very gradual until about 200 to the top and even at that its not overly steep. between 3 and 4 all downhill except for a kick over the other flyover with about 500 from home. so i would say a score of 4 for hills

Same day as the frank duffy 10mile which is unfortunate. Although the national half is the following weekend(2nd september) so maybe most club runners would opt for the tinryland race instead. Think I'll go for this myself.

Its unfortunate that we are clashing with the Frank Duffy 10 miler but we have been going with the last saturday of August for the last couple of years. There is a half in wexford and longford that weekend also and its getting harder and harder to get a good date that suits everyone. Traditionally we were in October but it wasn't working so it was either change the date or fold the race. Its ideal now as a blowout a week before the national half marathon and there is plenty of people out there who dont want to run longer races. Hope to see a good crowd on race day for our 33rd edition.

Just a quick bump for our annual road race
6 WEEKS TO ROCKFORD 4 MILER
Only 6 weeks left to enter, the 33rd edition of Tinryland AC’s annual 4 mile fun run/race Sat 25th Aug 2012. From humble beginings the ‘’Rockford’’ has grown in popularity and gone from strength to strength. Sponsored from the begining by Dan Morrissey Ltd it is one of the longest running sponsorships in Irish athletics.
Last year we had a huge turnout of competitors from the local and surrounding areas including Fit2Go Bootcamp and SLOT Ladies Fit for Life and local GAA clubs.
We cater for all people whether you want to run or walk and you don’t have to be super fit to compete and enjoy one of the best races on the Irish running scene. So come along and enjoy the atmosphere in a local run, accurately measured and organised in a professional and safe manner where all runners are treated the same. Last year's race had the highest entry to date with almost 300 runners toeing the line and this year we hope to exceed this number.
Proceedings begin on race day at 5 pm with a 1 mile fun run event for all juveniles up to the age of 15.This is a fun event where all ages will start together in a mass start and all finishers receive a medal. Following the juvenile run the main run will commence at 530pm. Last year a huge number of local runners / walkers and fit for life competed and raised a large amount of money for local charities and sporting organisations. So why not come along and have a chance of winning our super spot prizes and enjoy our unique road race. DJ Mark Neilon will add to the atmosphere in the village by playing music in the local square. This year for the first time in the history of the Rockford we will have chip timing from Galway based company Red Tag Timing, also all finishers will receive a specially designed medal.
A 26 inch wide screen LCD TV, a Digital Camera, a Luxury weekend for two and €200 jewellery Voucher.
Online entry is available with runireland.com till midnight Thur 23rd August for only €10 (credit charge included) or enter on the day for €15 from 4pm on race day in the local parish hall. Race numbers will be distributed on race day. A mini Rockford will start at 5pm for all juveniles under the age of 15 this is a fun event with all juvenile finishers receiving medals. If interested look us up on Facebook - Tinryland Road Race or contact Sean at 0872509520 for more details.

Great race, have done this race the last three years and am also planning to run Saturday even though it's about 1hour 30 mins drive from home. Think it's one of the best races in the country with a brilliant atmosphere, lovely village and probably the best feed i've seen in any race i've done.
Well worth giving it a go.
