Forgot to register at the immigration office STUDENT VISA

    Hi every one!
I am an international student from Japan and in the final year in Trinity college on student visa.
Every year, everyone on student visa has to be registered at immigration office around the end of October but I completely forgot about it this year..!
My visa will expire as soon as I graduate (or is that as soon as I finish my exams?) but I was thinking of renewing it because I want to take FE1s.

    So 3 questions here:
    1. What's going happen if an international student doesn't re-register? There is a proof of genuine stay for the purpose of education.

    2. Will I be able to stay in Ireland to take FE1s? I am going to attend a course in Independent college for the preparation but it is part time and I think student visa can only be issued for full time education.

    3. If not, I know that I can extend the student visa for another 6 months upon expiry. Would the fact that I didn't register in the first plave have adverse effect on this?

I don't know anybody who I can ask these questions so if I could get any opinions on these, it will be much appreciated!!

Have you never registered or is it just for this year? You should really speak to someone in immigration.

    Thank you for your reply!
I have student visa which permits me to stay in Ireland as long as I am in the full time education that I am registered for but to prove that I am still in college I have to go to immigration office and show letters from college etc to re-registered and for this year I have totally forgotten about it. So up until this year, I re-register every year, just this year I forgot to go in. I don't even know if I am "over-staying" per se at this stage..

I thought about sending email to the immigration office but because I am doing my final at the moment I am afraid of attracting the attention now and them telling me to leave immediately.

In fact there were more reasons than just "I forgot", I was sick for a while, there was serious delay on college part to proceed all the documents etc so I wonder if I should tell them my long I am sorry story or if this happens more often than not and it won't be such a big deal.

    Thanks again for your reply!

TBH you should just be honest and forthcoming. Let them know that there was a delay in processing documents and then you just totally forgot. Apologise and offer to bring in the documents immediately. There is no guarantee on how they will react, but you are a bona fide student and have complied with the laws up until this point - I doubt they'll hammer you over an innocent mistake.

I really hope so.. but at this stage I spent the entire academic year without registration..

Just in relation to the second point, do you think that if I had registered (or if they forgiven me) would it be possible to stay in Ireland for the purpose of taking FE1s, the entrance exams to the Law Society?

Thank you again for your reply!

Extensions of your permission to remain in the State to pursue your studies will only be granted if the Immigration Officer is satisfied with matters such as your level of attendance at your course, evidence of your accommodation, finances and medical insurance.

    Have a read of this.

Thank you so much for your reply and the link!

I read the articles and though I think that the most of the requirements could be met the one that requires the course to be more than 15 hours during the day time can be problematic since the course I am thinking of attending is in the evening and it a part time one.

I wonder how foreign students become a solicitor in Ireland then??

I will write to the department in charge telling the truth and see how they would respond to it.

Thank you again for your time to reply!
