    Hi,

I just got magnet about a week ago, broadband is brilliant but the set top box itself is pretty week, slow, unresponsive, and unintuitive.

I tried to plug it into my tv via HDMI to improve picture quality, but it doesn't seem to work. The bootup process shows on screen via the HDMI, but no TV output. Has anyone else had any success using HDMI ?

    Thanks

I had this problem too I think. I connected the box up with the HDMI cable and the Magnet logo came up and took a while to connect and then the screen just went blank.

Apparently what you have to do is set the box up the first time using a SCART cable. So do that and follow any on-screen instructions.

Once it's setup and working correctly via a SCART cable, turn the Magnet box off and leave it off for about 30 seconds. Turn it back on and while the box is booting up, hold down the menu button on the remote control. This will bring up a Firmware Configuration Menu.

Use the remote control to select the video button and it should give you a list of outputs. Not sure what resolution your TV supports, mine supports 1080p however the Magnet box only goes to 1080i. So select whatever resolution you want. I'm guessing your TV supports full HD so pick 1080i if it supports it and then follow any on-screen instructions. I can't remember but the box might reboot itself and I guess you'll need to disconnect the SCART cable and connect up the HDMI cable.

Hope that helps. Let us know if it works :)

Brilliant, thanks so much, that makes a huge difference. Were did you find out how to do that, did I miss some documentation ? Thanks again.

It took about 10 phone calls to the support line to get it sorted! Did my head in. It would have been nice had they just printed in the manual to set it up via SCART first, then change the setting to 1080i.

Although don't hold your breath, Magnet currently only have one HD channel and that's BBC HD. Really wish they'd provide some more.
