I wouldn't trust an AA "joe soap" mechanic as far as I could throw a stick. The irish "ah sure it's grand tick the box, I'm getting paid regardless" attitude prevails.

The AA and RAC in the UK are miles ahead for car inspections and actually do it properly.

I haven't actually gotten one myself, but did you not actually drive the car yourself before the inspection?

Funny, a lot of people told me it was the worst crowd to get a car inspection off as they aren't independent of the garages. Pity I was so naive but sure ah well, you live and learn. The crowd in England are much better are they? I wouldn't be surprised.

I did ya, had bought it at this stage. Basically got it inspected as I wanted to get to the bottom of problem, they didn't acknowledge it though, nevermind try and explain it. It was very annoying.

That Youtube video is 23 seconds long with no commentary, what's it supposed to mean anyway?

Well, buying a car is an absolute minefield - and not just used one's as the other nights consumer show pointed out in relation to Renault.

I'd advise find a mechanic - and one which is so busy he can't fit you in for at least a week. In my opinion that is a good indication of his abilities. Get him to check your car. He'll be able to check it more thoroughly, will cost less and leave you more confident in your purchase.

The youtube video does not seem to be available.

Would you mind sharing what you experienced - PM if you prefer.

Was thinking of having one of these done by the AA.

Better to just PM the person with the youtube link and refer to this thread
It will trigger an email to them instead of them stumbling over this thread again by chance.

    Old lock.
