    Hey Guys,

This question is mainly for primary school teachers.

If you want to take your class out for a field trip, how much time do you need in advance to plan the trip and what steps do you need to take before the trip (i.e. who to inform, letters to parents, etc)???

    Thank you :)

It depends what kind of trip - if it's just a local nature walk then a few days notice in a letter to parents, with a permission slip would do. If it's something that the kids need to bring in money for then we'd give more notice. The only people who need to be informed are the parents as they have to sign permission slips for anything like that.

There's a lot of behind the scenes organising - teachers have to go to the location and see if it's suitable for the age group, number of kids, kids with special needs etc. Bus companies need to be contacted for quotations. A total cost needs to be put together if there's an admission fee or extra money involved, as this has to be added to the bus cost, and broken down individually so parents know how much to pay.

As E.T. said- visit the site.
    Will you make out worksheets?
Do you expect children to work alone or in groups?
Will they need change of footwear?Clothes?Bring lunch?
What's the adult child ratio?Do you need to bring more adults?Do they have garda clearance? What time do you leave?Return?Bring a first aid kit
wherever you go and a "puke bag" or four if going by bus.
    What about toilet facilities?
