Can 7.4v RC Lipos be used for airsoft

I was just looking at the prices for 7.4v LiPos just out of curiousity. I noticed that some of the RC made 7.4v Lipos could be bought much cheaper than airsoft LiPo batteries although they have an equal or better Mah and C values than airsoft versions. I noticed that these do not come with connectors, but these can be bought and fitted.

So I guess to sum up the question, can a RC 7.4v LiPo which would have connectors installed (probably deans as they can be found reasonably priced online also) be used in an AEG?

I'm only looking at a 7.4v LiPo as an alternative to a 9.6v 1500maH NiMH, and have no interest in a 11.1v at this time.

A price example would be, that 2x 7.4v 2700mah 30C can be bought, including postage for around €35. And a set of a few Deans connectors can be bought for around €5-6, including postage.

I use 7.4v lipos in most of my guns, they give a RoF somewhere between an 8.4v and 9.6v NiMH, so grand for most guns.

http://www.component-shop.co.uk/ is best for batteries and connectors.

Ok, thanks. What are the specs on them? The mah reading and the C value(eg. 12C,20C,etc.) on them do you know?

A 7.4v lipo should be enough performance alright. It's the space that they take up compared to normal NiMH batteries is something I'm interested in.

That looks to be a good site alright, thanks.

most of my lipos are sold as 'RC' battery but tbh there is no difference between them and the 'airsoft ' version other than being cheaper, normally run with 7.4 2000mha 20c for the same power as a large 9.6 in a small package as other have mentioned

Thanks, good to get someone's personal experience. So they preform pretty much the same you say?

Say if I was to get a RC 7.4v 2000mah 20c (or maybe 25C) LiPo, would it work alright? After I've installed the connectors of course.

It's the idea of getting them for a bit cheaper, considering I'd be getting the charger, charge monitor and LiPo battery sack too.

And the chance to get two for the regular price of one sounds great (backup ready incase I go to a long skirmish)

They're only 10c or 15c, can't remember, I got them on ehobbyasia.com (the site's being dodge at the moment). They were about 10 USD. 'Hot Power' is the make.

I mainly got them for size -- they'll go into the stock tube of an m4-style aeg, or into the stick battery compartment of an AK.

I also deansed them up - component-shop do a deans male/female pair with the heatshrink required for 1.25 a pop. Sorted.

I've been looking at 20C ones at the moment, because they preform a little better. All different types of brands.
As for deans, I've been looking at a ten pack with heatshrink included:

I get all my batteries at component shop... my current favourite is a lipo for a remote control helicopter... 25c, 1600mah, 7.4v... £13? Awesome performance... its like the energizer bunny.

airsoft batteries came from rc cars.... the old nicd ones, then nimh, then lipo, you think airsoft companies invent them? lol Yep, rc car and plane and chopper lipos are grand as long as the ratings match :)

Thanks. I was just worried that similar specs mightn't be enough to get one to work. I know that airsoft copy batteries from RC but I didn't know if there were any small differences that would affect performance/compatibility; composition, performance, current output, etc.

Seeing as I'll get deans too they should preform well.

Could you send me a link to that battery please? Sounds very interesting and if I don't get that one, it'll be a perfect model to compare others to.

One last question, in a AEG such as the APS with EBB, how long might the battery roughly last? I'm just wondering incase I decide to go to a day long event and multiday event, how many batteries I'd need so my AEGs don't run out of juice.

Edit: Think I found the one you were talking about: http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/body_ip2s25c1600.html

    Yup, thats the shop.

Should last pretty much the same, the spring on the blowback return is not so heavy that it would impact on battery life much... only as much as perhaps the motor pullin a 350 spring compared to 1j...

thats the one i ordered. was cheap enough to say was worth a shot even if they fail. but dont see why they would.

I'm running three Lipos design for RC cars/copters.two of them are RCS max series 2700mah 7.4v 30c and one turnigy 2.2 2200mah 30c.Both battery came highly recommended from several different Rc Forums.I found them to be alot cheaper then the equivalent size battery offered by companies aimed towards airsoft.

I think the most expensive was 23 dollars if I remember right.

Bad Idea.I ordered these about a week ago to see what there like. There designed from the controllers of Rc's.Hence the red connection. The wiring is shocking and there worked once for about 10mins and after that my b-max charger couldn't pick them up.

Thanks. I was looking at something like one of these two options:

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/2x-RCS-2260mAh-7-4V-25C-LiPo-Li-Polymer-Battery-CA167-/390308063930?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item5ae02c6aba

They're both around €20-25 and have 20C as opposed to 20C. And their Mah are ~1800-2200mah.

Does anyone have opinions on these?

Thanks. I came across the first two big squid RC shootouts when I started researching other brands.

Now, I think I might save up and buy the RCS twinpack, they seem a pretty reasonable price, and to buy the; balance charger, low voltage monitor, deans connectors and lipo bag, it all comes to about €46.

How long does your RCS LiPo last anyway? I know it's rated about 500mah higher but should give me a rough idea of battery life.

Iv played nearly 2 full days on one of the Rcs.Starting at 10-11 in the morning to 6-7 in the evening. So give or take a total of 14 hours before it needed a charge.

Thanks, so the 2200mah might last about 10-12 hours grand enough. So by getting two I should be sorted for any long skirmish day or possibly 24 hour game.

You should be fine.I run them on g&p m140 motors and they last all day giving me about 15-17 rps.

Thanks for all the help, it's been great. I probably won't be getting the stuff for the while because I have no money at the moment. I might put up a review in the reviews section once I've got everything and tried it all out. That way if people are thinking of getting LiPos at a good price they'll know a good brand and how much it'll cost. I'll probably link the batteries and all the accessories.

Actually, where do you store your LiPo? In a PEQ box? because the dimensions online say they're about 10cm long and 3.5cm wide.

Glad I could help.I have one in the stock of a ares ppsh ,one in the front grip of a g&p masada (but its very tight in the masada).Cool ,if you dont bother with the review let me know how you get on with them.

What are you planning onusing them with?

At the moment, probably my APS M4.
But I might also use them for my JG AUG or Dboys scar. I'll be getting ten pairs of deans so I have good choice.
I have a JG G36c that I may be fixing up too.

I already have about three NiMH batteries, two of them came with AEGs (a JG one and the Dboys one).

The reason why I'm thinking of getting them is that I might run a lipo from a PEQ box or stock tube in the future, because they fit in more places than a NiMH battery. I currently have a dboys s-system rail which can hold front wired batteries but might change to a regular RIS in the future, which is why I need a PEQ box. But it's hard enough to find a working PEQ box that holds batteries aswell rather than one or the other. I think there was an element one around somewhere, but it only had the laser.

But right now I'm just selecting what I want so I can save up. But I doubt I'll be getting a PEQ anytime soon, probably not until next winter if I have money.
