Selling a car without NCT

I saw a Honda Accord earlier and it was exactly what I was looking for it looks in immmaculate condition from the pics. Rang the guy up and he explained it was an import from the UK duty is paid etc. So I did a motorcheck and it turned out fine except there hasn't been an NCT since August 09

It has relatively low mileage and body looks in decent condition. Obviously a precondition to purchase I'm gonna ask for an NCT but it might take a while and I was wondering is there any reason apart from some serious mechanical defect that would prevent someone from putting a UK import through the NCT process?

Seems kinda odd to me, car was imported in July 08 so it must have had a year NCT when it arrived which also strikes me as odd. That it only got a year NCT for a fairly newish car.

I'd be asking the seller why it hasn't been NCT'd especially when he has it up for sale. If the car is sound as you describe then surely a fresh NCT would make it more attractive when selling it. Remember there are lots of cars out with plenty of NCT on them so you can afford to walk away from one that doesn't seen right.

If its NCT has been out since August 2009 it's been sold by a gob****e and I would avoid at all costs, I can only imagine what kind of service history it has.

If the seller would NCT it today, it would only be valid for 3 months. You'd have to NCT it again in August of this year :)

However if you wait until 3 months before it is due (sometime later this month, I presume) - then the NCT will be valid till August 2013. That might be the reason why the seller hasn't NCT'd it just yet...
