From my experience 2 months for both might be a bit rushed. Maybe pick one place for the two months. I spent one month in Thailand and still wish I spent more time there. Didn't even see Laos, Cambodia etc.

In Australia there's so much to see 2 months is probably not enough. Granted you'll see everything but it will be a bit rushed. I spent 6 weeks going from Sydney to Cairns, and that was rushed.

www.airasia.com are a great airline with an extensive network including connections to Australia.

I've flown long haul with them also and they are superior to many full service operators imo.

Cambodia & Vietnam really made an impression on me, Thailand can be great but has had its problems recently and is increasingly westernised. Burma could also be an interesting destination and their liberation movement are now encouraging tourism.

Check www.seat61.com for rail options, a great way to see Asia and to interact with locals.

    hi,
if your going to travel over two months i'd fly straight to oz first and plan to come back via asia, it also depends on what part of oz you are looking to do?? the east coast is probably the most popular, and a lot of fun!!!
    check out www.trailfinders.ie or www.australianholidays.ie
    hope this helps!!

Don't go near trailfinders or any of those travel agents, you'll get fleeced! You'll get way better value doing it yourself.

As a previous poster said, AirAsia for the win, a magic airline.
I always found momondo.com great for finding flights, they search the low cost carriers too.
For flying from place to place, look up the airport page on Wiki and you'll get a list of all the airlines and destinations from the airport, then you can go and search them yourself, it might take a bit of time but well worth it.
Also as long as you're flexible, you can fly on Tuesday mornings (generally) for much cheaper than you would at the weekend.
Sign up to couchsurfing.org and meet the locals.

I'd probably agree that 2 months is a short time for Asia and Oz (it took me and the missus 13 months to do it), but if that's all you have decide on the things you really want to see, and don't miss them, especially if you think you won't get the chance to go back. For me, all the "big" tourist attractions (such as Angkor, Great Wall, Uluru) were well worth it, even if they're on the beaten track there's a reason for this.

    Have fun!
