I have a Humax FoxSat HDR for my foreign channels but I am still on analogue for my Irish. As this is doing my head in I am wanting to update to digital Irish. I am thinking Saorview as I live on a hill and it gets mad windy up here and if my sat dish goes down again my aerial is in the attic so would still work.

After reading this site I am looking at the Triax TR141 as I could hopefully make use of the hardrive I took out of my Humax( replaced it with 1TB, thank you boards.ie for that info) which at the moment is just attached to the Humax as extra storage. Watty says that it is over priced as it is not a deluxe item but has a deluxe price but beyond waiting for the price to come down can anyone see any other reasons not to get this or can anyone suggest another route to go.

What is a Triax TR141 ? The Saorview approved box made by Triax is the 112. €108. Its PVR via USB. It is expensive for what it is. I doubt they will come down too much. There are French TNT HD boxes out there for half the price but they dont do MHEG5 which is the interactive and text engine. You still pick up the stations and epg data. You can get a box likewise that does both Irish Digital and Satelitte in one channel list. They are called hd combo boxes there are threads galore here on them and a sticky above. Cheapest is €145ish.

I bought the Triax 112 in the end, set it up yesterday and it is picking up the freeview channels as well as the saorview, epg and everything, signal strength is not strong( around 10%) but it is there.Saorview is at 100%.

I live in Wexford, Forth Mountain to be exact but I thought my aerial would not pick up both signals, I was under the impression that you had to face your aerial at one or the other Saorview signal or Freeview signal.
I have not looked in the attic to see my aerial set up.

Has anyone else come across this?

RTE are broadcasting from that same Forth Mountain so it's possible you could watch Saorview without anything plugged into the antenna socket! Any bit of metal sticking out of a house would pick up Saorview when it's less than a mile or two away from the site. Forth Mountain is received from places up to 30km and further away, with the right aerial.

As previous post the Forth Mountain (Ch52) transmission site is right beside you. That area is on a height over 200m, you will have no problem with Freeview as a result.

Is that 10% stable ? If it is I wouldnt worry about it. But adjusting your aerials may help.

I am in the town on the River and can only receive Mount Leinster on 45.

    So lucky you.

Thanks for that lads, the 10% signal is a little shaky so I will check my aerial set up at the weekend.
