Dangerous Garda speed trap on M8.

I am a trucker in the distribution business in the North and am reasonably new to driving in the South. Last week I was heading to Cork when I noticed a car dangerously parked on the very narrow hard shoulder. It was the gards and they beckoned me to pull over, so I did. When I stopped the articulated lorry I was driving was sitting over the line onto the carriageway and to my surprise the officer asked me to get out which was no mean feat with th traffic passing by at motorway speeds.
He explained to me without showing me any proof that I was doing 106k/h despite my truck being new with an eu speed limiter set at 90k/h. He then asked me for my licence which was inside and I then had to climb in through the nearside because it was too dangerous to attempt to get in from the driver's side due to the traffic. He took my licence and proceeded to write my name and address down on a piece of plain white paper and told me that I would receive an 80 euro fine in the post and that all I had to do was fill in my credit card details on it and return it.
This was all done in under five minutes, I was never read my rights, I don't know my rights and I wasn't given anything to say this had happened. Can anyone shed any light on this, is it normal practice and what should I expect in the future?

    Cheers for now
    Ryan

Where they in uniform? The car was it marked or unmarked? And the plain white paper your said, was it a note book?

I assume your digital tacho can verify your speed?

Having driven trucks with a speed limiter I was well able to get over 90km/h on a downhill, no gear and retarder switched off.

What part of the M8? Was it a Toyota Landcruiser Garda Traffic Corps?

wait until official notice or summons arrives and if you can prove you were law abiding take it from there

    Can't believe that was genuine.
Also can't believe you gave over your credit card details at the side of the road and accepted them saying you were over when you knew well that you weren't.
I'd ring a Cork Garda station straight away

Re-read. He was asked, like everybody else who gets stopped, to fill in the payment details on the form he will receive in the post and return it to the station.

I wouldn't be arsed If I were him to be honest.

    Where on the M8 ?

No many speed checks between Fermoy and Cork anyways.

Sounds well dodgy to me, especially the bit about credit card details.

Did the 'Garda' have an ID number, aka Shoulder Number visible?

If there's any possibility this is a scam, or at least an unprofessional/unorthodox set-up, I would take it extremely seriouslyand report it asap.

I didn't know that, having no experience of such situations. :)
