    Hi Everyone,

I have tried everything at this stage for social anxiety and its really getting me down.

Does anyone know if I could see a CBT therapist free? I have tried this and was put on a waiting list for 6 months and then saw a behaviour therapist who was little help for what I was going through.

I found they just wanted to medicate me which I didnt want, they said they had no cbt therapist and the behavioural therapist was my only option.

Has anyone had experience with this? I feel with Social Anxiety, you need someone who has dealt with it before to fully understand it. The psychiatrist was v.difficult to contact, the only time I could see her was during the day when I had to work.

I have done all the groups out there and feel I need to see someone one to one for extra help.

Any help or ideas of what I could do?

It's a bit of a luck of the draw depending what area you live in. The HSE provides psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychiatric social workers, psychiatric OTs etc etc etc. These may have extra training/qualifications in any kind of psychotherapy or none. So one of these may have CBT training, or none of them.

Is there a way to guarantee that there's a CBT therapist in your area? No.

    This however might be useful.

Thanks, I know the two links and found both useful but I feel I would benefit more from seeing someone one to one.

So basically Juliuscaeser I cant get any free talking help that deal specifically with social anxiety but they will happily medicate me without knowing anything about me!

It is so frustrating that there is no help out there. I know the groups are good but they only take you so far.

Social Anxiety is a very lonlely problem as there are few GPs or psychiatrists out there that truely understand it, I know Ive wasted enough money trying to get help!
