What should I expect to pay for a second hand one approx?

I don't have your chassis number nor do I know the interior colour code but I'd take a reasonable stab that part you need is 8E2 857 124 6PS (I'm assuming the glove box door is black in colour).

TBH your as well off getting a new one as the old ones could be strained also. A new one from a main dealer is €135 so not going to save a massive amount. Now the fun part - when you take off the old glove box, pop off the panel on the side of the glove box (grab the bottom and gently pull it and it will pop off). When you open it you will see the lowering hinge which is designed to let the door slowly open rather than just open. If you wrip the wire clip with a visegrip you can take this hinge out. Now if you look at it closely you can see how it is clipped together. Open this hinge and you will see a rubber ring which is slides along in the chamber for the slow effect. First thing to do is drill a small hole in the end of the chamber to reduce the pressure in here. Secondly use a silicone lubricant (or do like me and just remove the washer altogether!) as it is this chamber ceasing causing the hinges stiffen and people to force them till they break the hinges. It sounds worse here than it probably is too!

    Thanks for writing all that

Would you say 135 inc or excluding vat?

Is there an Audi / Vag dealership on the south side you would recommend to get the part?

I bought one myself not long ago is only reason I know and seems to be a fault in them all. That was including vat but the lock doesn't come (so your own key will do again) but very simple to take out the old one and put it into new one. Thinks its 2 screws only from memory. The difference between North and South was about 10 euro by the time it was shipped down. It would prob be cheaper to go through a parts supplier than main dealer thou but was ordering other parts so was just as easy in my case. Just out of interest, is it just the left hinge is broken or both?

The left went first. I glued it and when that didnt work someone put a screw through the hinge. That held for two years. On one faithful day last week it opened suddenly by itself and the hinges couldnt take it and the good right hinge snapped and it fell onto the floor. Bad design to expect plastic hinges (that have lost slow hydraulic opening ) to handle the force. I was going to add a draw string of sorts to prevent this happening but never got around to it.

Either bad design or a great way to create demand for spares. I hear this is a problem across Audi and VWs

Im not in the trade. What parts supplier would you recommend south Dublin?
I got quoted 160 by a place with a seriously bad attitude.

Want to source else where even at the same price.

O god wish I was in the trade ha! I just went to my local Audi dealer and they had it in 2 days but seeing as all their parts are coming from Audi in Dublin you should be able to get it even faster from a dealer up their. Just from google if you ring Audi North Dublin

    Exit 5, M50,
    North Park, North Road,
    Dublin 11.
    Tel: 01-8502100

they should sort you out but if you have any troubles just PM me your VIN number and I have a buddy working with my local Audi Dealer who will pick it up for me and I can post it up to ya if your having trouble. Should be fairly straight forward but alot of parts stores wont be the most welcoming :(
