How to get old newspaper archives?

I am wondering how I might be able to get hold of newspaper archives from 2004/2005. I have a special interest in a couple of stories from back then. The main one I am looking for is from the Sunday World, but the archives go back to 2008 and then jump to 1970 for some reason. Do I need to contact the paper and hope they give me a copy? Or is there a way to get it online? I think the other paper is the irish daily mirror i need a story from.

Have you tried the National Library of Ireland? They should have all the newspapers on microfilm.

No. Are you based anywhere near Dublin? Its very easy to get access to the microfilm room. Its just beside the Dáil on Kildare St.

You could give Irish Newspapers archive online a try, but you'd have to pay for their services.
