Bonus tied into Salary

    Hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone can provide me with some advice.

I recently attended an interview for an admin post. I feel I am well qualified and the interview went really well, and it would be great to get the job. If I dont then I'm sure they have found someone very good & I will get on with things.

It is for an admin/pa/receptionist role, that will organise a number of work schedules for workers, take calls and allocated work, deal with invoicing and payments etc.

The salary is low, even though I would be happy to work for what they are offering in this climate.

However it was noted at interview that there would be a bonus scheme involved in the role, on a monthly basis. The more the business progressed resulting from the chosen candidate implemented changes in the office, getting everything organised, ensuring workers are sent to the maximum number of calls her day, basically ensuring the business is working at full potential and sales increase, they there would be a system whereby the candidate would receive a monthly bonus. I dont know exactly how this would be implemented but it does sound interested.

I have never working in such an environment, so I just wondered if anyone could share any experiences of a simiar system, or what level of bonus could be expected, or even how something like this would work.

    Thanks for your help!

I think that the main thing is that you know exactly what is expected from you in order to get the bonus. As cliché as it sounds, check out a little about S.M.A.R.T. goals.

They need to be very clear on what you need to achieve in order to get the bonus, and obviously these have to be achievable targets that are within your power to reach - for instance, how can you help sales increase is you're not in direct sales? I'm sure it's very possible, but you need to know what kind of influence you can have on that, if you're not the one actually closing deals. What happens if the sales aren't increased, but the sales people are getting more leads? All that kind of stuff.

My job is structured like this and it's based on how many billable days I have each month, I work in consulting.

It's important as Eoin said to be clear on your goals, and be able to quantify them each month, with my job I need to know how pre-sales, follow up, and actual consulting contribute.

Thanks for the info guys, really helpful. I just wasnt expecting this kind of system and have never worked with one. I can see how it would work in a sales environment for def, just dont know how they are going to measure it tbh. I know that they want new systems set up to organise things a lot better, and I can see how you could earn a bonus for getting that set up. But once that is done and the system is working better I dont know how you could then earn a bonus when the role would not be sales related.

If I was lucky enough to be considered for this I would certainly need to clear up exactly how the bonus would be earned and monitored. Thanks a mill for the advice, in the interview I really didnt know what I should ask about it, but this gives me a much better idea of what I need to clarify.

Ok well going on what you've said then there are two factors to this, and I can parallel it to my experience.

The first aim will probably be to increase utilisation (number of sales, number of sales dealt with daily, tasks completed daily)

Then once that settles there will be a target to have people e.g. engaged 70% of the time on client sites resolving issues.

I'd this in a couple of roles where first you needed to build up the business and then maintain it.

    Does that make sense?

If you want, pm me and I can go into more detail.
