I'm not sure if these qualify as classic but they are quite old so I decided to throw the thread here!

I'm looking to get nice car for the summer, something old probably, I just wanted to hear your opinions on various cars. Bear in mind I only got the idea today so this is one of the first cars I've looked at.

I've been looking at GT 2's from around the 88-92 mark (I cant insure the Scala), strikes me as a bit rarer than a mk2 golf just as I haven't seen as many around.

Whats your opinion on these? Any common (major) problems?

Feel free to recommend any other cars to me, although I have to be able to insure it, insurance companies tend to duck and cover when they see 19 year old males wanting insurance!

Yeah I've never drove an auto, probably never will, takes away some of the joy in my opinion.

Beauty of a car though, probably the cleanest example I've seen so far, the are a few old adverts on donedeal but a lot of them look like scrap...

i had a 1.8 GT and it was a good car to drive !
like the look of the second generation scirocco over the mk 1 .

never drove the first one though ,so cant compare the driving difference !

    manta,

thanks thats just the stuff I'm kooking for, thats a nice car in your pic there, although it does look like you have just taken it out of the oven and peeled back the tin foil :D

I'm really considering selling my mk4 tdi golf in the coming weeks to get one of these!

    I think they're really a love them/hate them car.
I love them my wife hates them!
Had been driving one for the last two years as my daily driver but arrival of baby has forced me to change to something a little more practical.
Generally very reliable over the two years. 22 year old car so things are bound to wear etc. As previous poster said easy to maintain if you have a bit of knowledge (or in my case a haynes manual).
Very active and helpful UK site here - http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/

For very little money you can have something a little bit "exclusive". In the two years i was driving it I only met another one on the road once!

Possibly selling mine shortly so if you're still interested I can send you on pics etc.

If you only want for the summer then you might be able to get classic insurance - think you're limited to 5k miles with that.
