Like above, also check your sparks plugs are in good nick, maybe replace if its
needs be, will also help get the emissions down. Good luck.

Excellent stuff thanks for the help lads.

I'd imagine the process would be quite similar for the bora against the MK4?

Think I might stay away from this one... Anyone know the cost for getting it done?

What engine is in the Bora ?

I cleaned out my throttle body on the 1.4 Golf, it's very straight forward but I didn't remove it, just sprayed carb cleaner into it and scrubbed with a tooth brush. I'd seen it done previously by a mechanic in the past.

If You take it to a garage they may have a special equipment like my local (VAG Specialists) which is soley for cleaning the Throttle body, they use some speical cleaning fluid which is around €25 alone per bottle. The system then causes the engine to backfire ensuring a spotless Throttle Body. A Throttle Body Aligntment is usually required after cleaning and this is included in the total of around €40.

That said mine could do with re-alignment since I cleaned it Myself, After startup it idles quite low so I need to keep it around the 1000 for a minute or so before it goes back to normal.

Whats the problem you are having OP?

If you have failed the NCT on emissions then cleaning the throttle body is extremely unlikely to solve anything.

Na the NCT part is fine just that it's taking ages to start sometimes... I brought it to a mechanic a while ago who said that it needs to be cleaned and that's what the issue is but I can't remember the pricing :o

You would have to diagnose what is causing the emissions to be off first of all.
Could be anything, vacume leak, blocked egr, exhaust leak, fuel issue, electronic issue could all cause it.

Exactly how it failed the test can help point in the right direction.
