JF Engineering - Help

Hi all. I'm in first year of Engineering, and I really did not do enough work during the year. Because of that, I'm quite certain that I'm going to fail a few modules. If I do, will I be allowed to repeat the year, without having to do Supplementary Exams? I know that if fail the exams now, I won't be able to pass them in August either, so there's not really any point in me doing them. Also, I don't think I would want to continue on to 2nd year yet, I want to go back and re-do 1st year so that I actually know the stuuf that is on the course. Any help?

You have to sit supplementals, whether you get them or not is irrelevant, I had the same issue and was told if i did not sit the supplementals I would be excluded from the course ie. I wold not be able to repeat.

If you have a valid excuse (which i doubt since you are asking so early and i will assume that you will just be wanting to work for the summer), then talk to your tutor.

You may have to pay full fees for the year unless you have a valid medical excuse for not being able to attend substantial parts of the year. I forget what the cost is exactly but look around 10k.

The state only pays for you to do the year once.

I'm in JF engineering aswell. Didn't really do anything for the easter but I'm hanging in there. Did bad in maths on monday but studied hard yesterday and did fine in computers today although i messed up q3 big time. You just have to look at the past exam papers and do them. Same stuff more or less comes up every year.

well if you fail 2 you can tech still get into 2nd year...as long as you have an average of over 40% and you pass 50 ects you can fail the 2 subjects by a total of 10%.ie by 5 in 1 and 5 in the other...also you can so learn the course my august...i did it...failed 3 barely passes another few and i made it through it wont be easy but you can do it and since you dont have to pay for repeats you really should give it a try...even if you still end up failing by doing the repeats you will have learnt something and so will be better set to repeat the year...

Also, do you have to pass the continuous assesment AND the exam to be able to pass a module, or just have over 40% overall? Because I know for sure that I completely failed the C.A. for physics in semester 1.

Depends on the module. Most of our year scraped through physics last year and my guess is they passed on the labs alone. experimental methods you need to pass it all, but I don't think you do in physics.

That depends on the module too then. I know 1e6 last year, a guy in our course failed his repeat exam, but his C.A grade was enough to let him pass.

OP, check with the department. Or read the handbook (I'm sure it's in there)

Taking and passing supplementals is probably a lot less hassle than repeating the year, financially and otherwise.
