I've just checked in online for the first time and printed off my boarding pass for a ryanair flight to spain. It says on the boarding pass that gate closes at 08.15 and departs at 08.45 - so what does this mean? Does it mean I have to be there at the gate at 08.15 or before it?? Should we be sitting on the plane at 08.15?? When do they open the plane to board as I havent paid for priority seating and I want to sit with my friend. What time should we be making our way to the gate??

the gate to the plane closes at 08.15 & as it's ryanair its the furthest gates from security, you'd want to be going through security no later than 08.00

So that means no body else is let on the plane after 08.15?? Did I get that right?? Is it a long walk from Security to the ryanair gates?? 15/20 mins??

Thanks for your prompt reply BTW ;)

You'll get loaded onto the plane once it turns up at the gate and the previous load of people have got off. That could be at any time really, but if the plane is on time and they have people loaded by 8:15 then they will close the doors and go as soon as they can.

It is a fairly long walk to the Ryanair gates, but in the mornings you are also liable to get delayed getting through security so allow plenty of time for that.

How do I know once the plane is available to board???

Personally I'd get there for about 7am, but the bag drop will eat up a bit of time as well.

You'l know when you can board because everyone at that gate will suddenly stand up and queue once they see the plane out of the window.

doesn't mean alot, i have flown ryanair dozens of time and not once have they started boarding the plane 30mins before departure time

you will usually get seats together if you go board by the back entrance

The rule I use in an airport like Dublin, going short haul to the UK or Europe, is to be walking in the door of the terminal two hours before the depaurture time.

That gives enough time for bag drop, security, food, shop, queuing to board etc without the hassle

Yeah I would be the same. Ryanair is probably the furthest gates so its a fair walk. If they are going on time then the gates will close and you wont be let on - have seen it happen!

Old thread but it arriving on a bus at 14.55 too risky to get a Ryanair Gatwick flight at 15.50 Terminal 1 cutting it fine? Especially around Xmas. My other bus arrival time is 12.55 :(

Yep, too risky. Last time I got a Gatwick flight the gate was at the far end of the airport so took ages to get to. Plus there was some sort of hold-up in security, which all meant I very nearly missed the flight.
