Rabbit Curing

    Hey folks, took a rabbit home Sunday and put it straight in a pot of water after washing off any blood etc etc...2day (wednesday) i checked the pot and found it smelled kinda OFF, is 3days 2long to leave it or is the smell just normal? Wanna cook it mro n not sure if its safe 2do so?

    I've never left one three days to find out! If it's any help,a good way to prep a bunny is to skin and gut him,then place in a tub of salted water(best use sea salt,it dissolves best,don't use table salt,it won't dissolve properly and may burn the bottom part of the meat),then leave to soak for AT LEAST twelve hours(makes it much more tender,the meat will darken or turn slightly grey but don't worry) then do what you do to make it tasty:):)

    panch them in the field (let the grey crows and magpies get a chance, a charlie if your lucky)
    skin them wash them and half boil them when your home.
    theyl last 2 days max in your fridge then ;)

    Can't remember if it was last week or the week before but field sports Britain did a piece on rabbits from panching them to cooking. Well worth a look, very good feature

    Ya id normally cook them when got home or the next day.. but didnt get the chance to n it got left a longer than i would have liked...

    I just member hearing how people say the best thing 2do is leave it hang for a few days before going at it n all that but im not sure if thats just old wives tales or actually true
