Magic Eye with UPC & tvLINK plus

I recently purchased the tvLINK plus kit for the purpose of using a magic eye for IR remote from my TV back to the digital box located in the attic. The box and the TV are connected via coax.

As things stand all I can receive at my TV point is Irish digital channels.

I assumed that the coax would send the digital signal and all of the UPC channels from the box to the TV but its not working for me. The UPC installer never tried to hook up a magic eye before but claimed that the signal would not travel through the coax - that we would need either a SCART or HDMI cable. Is he right? Am I missing another piece of kit? The booklet with the tvLINK plus mentions a special type of coax?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Well in relation to the signal when it comes to sky I believe you need scart ect and only coax to the box ? always worth a short scart leads are only a couple of euros these days.

Thanks for your reply. I'm using UPC though, not Sky and coax cable is currently linking the box in the attic to the TV downstairs so remote access via a scart isn't an option without some digging out at the walls.
