Ireland isn't Ireland without Rain

Just went outside for a smoke and found the most beautiful sight I've seen for about 3 weeks: Rain! It hasn't rained during waking hours in Dublin for about a month and it was like seeing the first blanket of snow during winter. Yes, I probably need to get a girlfriend but you can't call yourself Irish if you don't enjoy some aspect of rainy weather and a feed of spuds.

Farmers on the east coast have been gagging for a bit of rain in the past few weeks and obviously those in the north west of the country need a bit with all the bog fires. I know those in the south west have had quite a bit of rain recently and for once I'm jealous of people in Cork.

It's not cold so you can't complain. As the good Flann O'Brien once said "You know it's summer in Ireland when the rain gets warmer".

How do you feel about rain?

Its been raining here all day.

I like the sun for a change, we get enough rain.

Could do without it (even if the land can't). Thankfully Dublin has the lowest amount in the country so it isn't that much of an issue.

I, for one, love the sun we've been having lately. More sun; less rain -- that's what I say! I wish it was like this more often.

I like an occasional rain. Ive no time for wind though. It contributes nothing to my life.

It's funny but I had a similar experience when I saw the rain just earlier I said to myself .... " ah, lovely, and that'll be great for the garden".

I'm not a huge fan of it when i'm out of the house, but when im at home the sound of it raining against the windows is strangely relaxing.

It wasn't proper Irish rain though! There's been a few days of spittin' rain in between but we haven't had the rain fall we're used to over the past few weeks

    Rain is a disgrace.

hate rain, makes everything cold and miserable, makes even the most beautiful city e.g innsbruck in austria look dreary

why would irish farmers need rain, they don't grow anything in this country, just take a trip on the train from dublin to westport or galway and its empty field after empty field not a crop in sight

I moved from a country that never stops raining to a city where it barely ever rains. If it does, people update their Facebook statuses about it and run and hide from it like it's acid rain. Can't handle it at all. Bleedin' lightweights. I genuinely miss the stuff...not the amount we get at home but a bit of variation in the weather is nice....gives you something to talk about beyond, "It's hot" or "It's cold" like here.

Love rain outside when you're tucked up in bed with a handsome man.

But what exactly is 'Irish rain'? It was a humid afternoon that brought a surprise shower, which managed to soak me between the train station and the taxi.. It's happened me too many times in Aprilly* Ireland for it not to be 'Irish'! :p

Granted, I know that three-plus days of clinging mist normally quantifies Irish rain, but rapid-onset monsoons seem frequent too...

Many many types of rain = Irish rain.

A few days of consistent rain constitutes Irish rain. A mild soaking on one day is for tourists! :)

Grass for livestock, hay and silage maybe? A decent amount of rain, mild to warm temperatures and a decent bit of sunshine from now until September/October are excellent grass growing conditions.

The sun has been the only thing keeping me going for the last few weeks.
Nothing like a nice break from study in hot weather.
    Give it back!

    Wash out your mouth!!
Waterford is a super place, as is most of Ireland.

    Arklow being the exception...

Just had to go to my door to look out at the rain with a big smile - I feel like an African or something:)

Will be sick of it in a few days but at the moment I am glad its raining. Will sort out the awful fires in the west and cheer up the gardeners and farmers.

And we wont have to feel guilty sitting on the sofa instead of being out in great outdoors doing something healthy;).

I don't mind the rain, was nice to see a change in weather.
I have things I like about most types of weather.
Love when it's sunny for doing things like barbeques.
I quite like listening to howling wind and rain, and a walk on a very blustery or frosty day can be nice and refreshing. Snow looks beautiful too, and adds an extra nice feeling around christmas time.
I get bored/sick of any weather though after about 10-14 days.
So although I like most types of weather, if it doesn't change that soon, you will find me cursing the rain/sun/wind/snow and wishing it would go away!
I do hope we get a lot more sunny days for the summer though.:)

The farmers will be delighted. This bit of rain and the warm weather and it's just perfect for grass!
Well a bit more rain needed
