I came accross a thread like this on another site, and thought it might be a good idea here.

    My favourite devotions are ;

    1. Eucarhistic Adoration
    2. The Rosary
    3. The Sacred Heart
    4. The Stations of the Cross

I find devotions a great way to help me pray during the week, and they also add a great richness to my faith.

What are your favourite devotions and why ?

Do you reccomend any tips for them etc. ?

For me, The Stations of the Cross are of great assistance to me.

The Stations reaffirm for me the love that Christ had for mankind despite His trial and tribulations and His death for our sins.

By doing the Stations of the Cross, my faith is re-enforced as I concentrate on each station and I meditate and pray at each stage of the journey.

I've also been fortunate to visit several Marian shrines such as Lourdes.
These devotions are obviously less regular than the ones which can be practiced in the church.

What I also find comforting about doing the stations, is that no matter what troubles you're going through, you realise that Christ suffered as well, you are not alone in your troubles, and that we all have our cross to bear.

    Indeed.
And we can take solice that Jesus is with us every step of the way with our personal crosses.

The other devotions that you listed such as the Sacred Heart, is this attending church on first fridays?
Unfortunately because of work commitments, attending church on first fridays is nearly impossible.

Having said that I do visit the Church most week days during my lunch hour for 10-15 minutes daily.

I have fallen into a certain state of spiritual decay in recent years. Normal service will resume shortly.

However, my favourite devotions, in order of regularity are thus:

3 Hail Marys morning and night for purity.
    Spiritual reading.
St. Michael Prayer during times of temptation.
    Divine Mercy Chaplet.
    Rosary.
    Eucharistic Adoration.
    Bible reading.
Divine Office (haven't done that for years).

I think the best thing is to decide on a small number of things and just do them. I fell into the trap of wanting to do everything and actually doing nothing. You have to be disciplined and make a commitment to do summit.

I recommend spending more time on personal devotions and spiritual reading than on the internet.

I know how you feel!! :( It's tough going at times.

I used to pray the office every day but I've been very undisciplined lately. I like the Divine Mercy chaplet and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. And I don't read scripture nearly as much as I should.

Novena to the Sacred Heart, Memoare of St.Bernard and St.Michael the Archangel Prayer. The Jesus rosary, Our Ladys Rosary, Scripture reading/Spiritual reading. I used to do the stations of the cross but to busy for it now and too far away from any Church to do it as well.

As you are no doubt aware, Roman Catholic methodology isn't exactly my cup of tea. But I do find myself in said churches for the occasional baptism, communion, funeral and the like. Since ipod earpods would be a disrepectful way to drown out the service, I find myself turning to the stations of the cross for succour. They (as does Christian art in general) have a powerful effect on me.

I'm lucky in that my local chapel has mass on Fridays at 7.30pm.

There's a good summary of the devotion here
    http://www.theotokos.org.uk/pages/fatima/sacredh.html
"To qualify for this tremendous grace it is necessary to receive Holy Communion validly and worthily, that is not being in a state of mortal sin, on the nine consecutive first Fridays as stated. In addition the communicant must have the intention, at least implicitly, of making reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for all the sinfulness and ingratitude of mankind."

for me devine mercy and some of the rosary!!,,

prayers in honour of Archangel St.raphael and St.Anthony

but the tops and my fave - St.Michael The Archangel - his every day prayers, but especially his chaplet:

those who do this chaplet will have his constant help and protection through their lives, an Angel from each of the 9 choires with them as guards of honour as they go to communion and his personal deliverance for them AND their family/relatives from purgatory

his novena i do every year for 9 days up to his feast day on sept29th ( he used to have 2 feast days (may 8th i think! and sept 29th), go to mass that day honour him and Raphael and Gabrielle aswell and guardian Angels.

always baffles me why on earth even our church leaders have forgotten the imense powerful intercession and protection of St.Michael , even on his feast day ya rarely hear a word about him, yet doesnt anyone realise how close he is to God the Father in particular because of his loyalty when Stan rebelled? in the pecking order if it is the appropriate thing - in heaven you have:

    the Holy Trinity
    the Blessed Mother
and followed by and before all others - St.Michael The Archangel

but again do you ever hear this preached or mentioned?! nooo ya dont

it might interest people to know that when the free masons and traitors to the church were making their plans through vatican 2 - one of their biggest moves was to remove all mention, statues etc of St.Mchael from churches and all catholic areas of worship - think about it? - when did ya last see any mention or honour of St.Michael?

    food for thought amigos.....

Baggio how right you seem to be. I never see statues of St.Michael in Ireland. Or paintings for that matter. I think they dont preach about it him because as you say its part of that modernistic heresy that they dont believe in hell or speak about it for fear of ''hurting'' the congregations feelings.

A few years ago, at Mass for the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels, the priest cast doubt on the existence of angels and said that it was fine and helpful if you wanted to believe in that sort of thing. The same priest on another occasion explained away the miracle of the loaves and fishes as merely a miracle of sharing... *sigh*

Sadly, many priests do not seem to believe in miracles or angels, if what they say in their sermons is any indication. They also aren't so fussed on sin or hell. Or heaven for that matter. I have rarely heard heaven mentioned. You'd think it would be, given it's one of the main selling points of the religion.

Exactly. Ah well, I hear that many of the current batch will make good priests, so things should get better.

Dr. Mark Dooley helped stir things up a bit in Maynooth and things are hopefully getting better. I'm not saying it's all his doing, but he helped the process along.

He wrote some articles in the Irish Daily Mail:

    http://www.metamedia.ie/Haggai/sin_within_the_church.pdf

    http://www.metamedia.ie/Haggai/dark_forces.pdf

He was sacked from Maynooth after he wrote them. Well, I say sacked, but Maynooth said that due to operating issues, his contract won't be renewed...

wow!!! Just shocking. I dont know what to say. I'm not surprised he has been ''let off'' ;)

Its been in so many papers and blogs these days that you'd think Rome would of by now stepped in and pulled the weeds out.

But I think we might get a surprise report about it from Rome following the visitation this summer. I think Archbishop Diarmuid Martin did say we should expect it by then.

Should we expect a cover up by maynooth? I doubt they can cover something like that up hahaha.

re - St.Michael yeahh again ya never hear anything about him or paintings/statues etc.. although theres a decent sized one at Knock.

and to our protestant couzins you guys know your bible St.michael is specifically mentioned in Daniel and Revelations as the "great prince who stands up for the people of God" you guys will have the exact words im sure :)

but again for catholics think again - all the seeer's around the world, most of the time the blessed mother or our lord has St.Michael very involved in the appartions/messages - in Garrabandel he appeared first to the kids with the message that Mary would appear.

he is deeply involved in the end times, people better start waking up coz yur in those times now and we'll need his help big time! ,, and those clergy who never give honour to him?? well its typical traitors everywhere ,,

as the man says - i may be rancid butter, but im on his side of the bread! haha
