I dug up an old laptop today.

I remember the password (well kinda) i know the word but its a mix of upper and lowercase and numbers instead of letters etc. Cant seem to get it right.

Im looking for a wordlist generator where i can specify the characters being used and it will output every combination of each.

I cant find anything thats not linux based. Any ideas?

Reboot in safe mode, log in as administrator (no password by default) and remove the password on your own user account.

    Assuming xp?

    You could try http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

I used it before, seems ok. Best to reset password with the tool (no password) rather than try change it.

Ophcrack, provided it's a simple enough password.

Ophcrack is a bootable live cd with built in rainbow tables.

It runs without logging into the OS.

    Or try Konboot http://www.piotrbania.com/all/kon-boot/

Where are you based. I have a disk for clearing the passwords.

I am in West Dublin if that is any help. Only takes about 5 min.

Emergency Boot CD (EBCD) has a utiltiy for clearing passwords as well (from a SAM registry hive)..

bootable image, select the tool you want and follow the onscreen prompts.

nice article and a few links to tools here:

Go with Damo's suggestion. I've done it a million times, only takes 2 minutes. It will overwrite the password, rather than crack it.

Used what Damo and Penfold are talking about multiple times too. Nice simple utility.

It's command line, but for the most part the default option selected will get you to where you want to go.

I was going to suggest the Petter Nordahl tool, but it's been moved to here. It's good and works - just make sure to read the screen properly. You can 'change' it but not save it if memory serves.
