Hello ,I've been trying to install a second cigarette lighter in my van. I decided to try and take the live from the permenant live to the radio.
All was going well until ,I decided to check the power connections with a multi-meter. For some reason I don't have a permenant live anymore going to the radio. I haven't actually broken any cable ,but may have shorted them.

The van is a renault trafic ,the display above the radio is also not getting power anymore.
If anyone could help it would be really appreciated ,

    Thanks.

    Have you checked the fuse?

You may not have taken the actual live from the radio, and its causing problems as its now in another circuit.

Can you undo what you did and take the feed from the existing circuit for the cigarette lighter instead?

Ive disconnected it now ,but there no permanent live anymore. There wouldn,t be a safety cut off on something would there?

EDIT: btw ,it gets the ignition live when the key is turned ,but that only lights the power button

The safety cut off would be a fuse. Either there is one at the back of the radio or else in the fuse panel.

Got the problem ,it wasnt the radio fuse but a blue 15amp with a picture of the battery and a plus sign.

all I have is a 10amp available ,would that be alright for a temp solution.

    thanks.

Edit : Thanks for the replies ,sorry for the bogey looking replies but I was on my phone.
It's great to get that sorted ,thanks all !

Yeah, 10A should do for now, but bear in mind that it could blow in the meantime as the fuse is underrated.

Thanks ,the next one up I have is a 25amp:(

After dismantling loads of panels looking for connections ,I discovered an easy route to the cigarette lighter behind the dash ,so alls well.

    Cheers:)
