NCT.... Exhaust Emissions....

    Hi all,

Brought the car (Ford Mondeo, 2001) in for the NCT a few weeks ago, and it passed on everything except emissions. The NCT guy didnt even to the emissions test because he said it was too smokey??

I brought it to my local mechanic who said it was a common occurence with the Ford Mondeo and to just drive the arse out of it before the re-test.

I also topped up the oil (maybe a bit too much), and I also put in an emissions reducer in the petrol tank.

So today I brought it back for the re-test and it failed again... results as follows:

High Idle: Lambda: 0.95 (limit: 0.97 and 1.03)
    (3080rpm) CO 2.01 vol% (0.30%)
    HC 695 ppm (200 ppm)

I'm looking for advice/suggestions guys.... anything at all??

    Thanks a million
    :)

Your running too rich, It could be an 02 sensor or an map sensor. Also you could be looking at a new cat if it does not reduce the HC's.

...or still burning a shed load of oil. Everything that high is not a good sign.

Too much oil could be the culprit too. Check again that it's below max level on dipstick.
Overfilling with oil can cause it to be sucked up into the air intake pipe through the crankcase breather pipe and into the engine with the air. This messes up the richness of the mix and could cause high HC readings.

Check the air intake hose where it's connected to the throttle body. Is there gunk in there?
If so clean it out, clean throttle body and change oil and plugs. Drive like stolen for a day.
