My iPhone defaulted to an edge connection in an area it couldn't find 3G. I'm with 3 btw.

Any thoughts? Is this something new?

Well, I sure don't get EDGE. I either get 3G, or an o. Be nice if EDGE was a fallback instead of GPRS alright. One of few things good on O2.

Also, strangely, a phone/arrow icon (I think to mean forwarding is active). It wasn't there for a day or two, but it's constantly there now. I'm assuming it's to do with the roaming on Vodafone on occasion?

Think I recall seeing it mentioned that one Vodafone cell has EDGE coverage out by the IFSC a good while before alright - may even have been here on boards.
Can't understand why they don't just roll out EDGE all over Ireland - as far as I know, it's a simple matter of re-configuring their Alcatel GSM gear in the base stations to move from GPRS to EDGE.
They advertise themselves as "home of the smartphone" which is laughable really since you only have dial-up speeds to fall back on when outside of their 3G network coverage area.

I too notice this since yesterday where the connection to 3G is not available, the phone switches to a Edge network. I thought it was a bug or something. I am in IFSC here on 3 network.

Just noticed it now myself, using it near drumcondra but I wouldn't be a million miles from the IFSC as the crow flies.

    Screen grab attached.

Done a speed test, it seems slower than edge.
