When it isnt going to start, the "car with key" lamp does not come on.
It looks like an immobiliser light but AFAIK this car does not have anything like that fitted. anybody know better ?
It happens in various times/places, but never in the driveway or when i am home! (usually when warm).
Have tried swapping keys anyway, but its so intermittant i cant repeat the fault, but of course it happens to herself....
    help!

They have immobilisers and thats the symbol for it .
Initialy I thought my car in 2000 didn't have one but it does too.

The odd time it comes on in my car for no reason and won't allow it to start but I just turn off the ignition and re-insert it without a problem.

It could be the immobiliser, don't know anything about them though.

Sound like the same problem, usually when it hiccups, it will start after a few secs, but sometimes will take 5 mins before it starts.
maybe it does have some sort of immobiliser alright, but i have found the HMA USA website is useless, nothing seems be close enough.

I had that exact same problem with my 2001 Hyundai Accent GLS Gold.

I was initially told to get the key checked for possible damage to the chip,
but no nothing wrong with the key.

Then I eventually figured it was the immobiliser because I copped on to that orange key symbol not appearing when the car failed to start.

All it was a matter of doing in my situation was to sort out a bad connection and it has given me no trouble since.

any idea where the bad connection was?

No idea on the whereabouts of the bad connection. Took it to my mechanic. He ran a diagnostic, pinpointed the problem and sorted it out.

Coincidentally my indicators were playing up aswell at the same time. Again a bad connection.

More than likely anyway it is probably the immobiliser.

Hope this was of some help.
