I've been thinking of getting a wireless remote for my 500D for a while but I'm a bit confused at the moment.

I'd like to use it for time-lapse as well.

    Any suggestions?

This Hahnel one is the business: http://www.hahnel.ie/index.cfm?page=dslrremotecontrols&id=60&pId=60 - from an Irish Company!

I've used this non-wireless one from DealExtreme. Took some time to arrive, but I used it for a time lapse in Cape Town, and it was very good. I used it with a Canon 400D.

Let me see if I'm prepared to let the lads here see it (and specifically, if pbase will host a video)!

I'll get it uploaded during Friday....

For my time lapse, (looking at the EXIF data), I had ISO 400, 1/250th, f7.1, and aperture priority, and -0.7 exposure compensation.

At one point, I changed someing, say the exposure compensation, as I felt the pictures were too bright.

Full auto could be a problem, as you might get a large variation on exposure, and you might want a more gradual decline in light levels. Consider a sunset, which you'd want black at the end - auto exposure will fight it the whole way.

Also, manual focus since you won't want the camera focussing on something in the nearground every second or third frame.

To be honest, the Cape Town time lapse (above) was just an impromptu effort - no real planning. Just do it. It's from a hotel window, and so manual focus was neccessary - it kept finding the window. The 400D is on a Gorillapod, and the JCC remote I mentioned above from DX.

Many of the tips from stop motion animation apply to time lapse. I was laughing to myself this morning - my first animation was on Ekatrachome Super 8 back in the 80s, with Lego!
