I have been with Airtricity since i moved into my house 2 and a half years ago. Today i got a letter informing me that they have been under charging me for the entire time and will be contacting me to recoup said money.
Surely this is not my fault. I have never been late with payments and cannot afford to repay money that they failed to charge me in TWO YEARS!
What should my next step be?

If you used it, you have to pay it. You don't have a choice there. It's your responsibility to make sure that your bills are accurate, from an actual reading and not an estimate. If your meter could not be read for over 2 years, you should have submitted a reading periodically yourself.

Check your meter reading, figure out how much you owe them, and ask for a payment plan to be put in place.

I did have my meter read and they upped my bill afterwards. So how come they didnt cop it then?

Does the reading on your most recent bill match (or near match) your current reading? Any time a reading is taken, you'll be charged for whatever has been used to that point.

    ya they are close enough.

my meter reading from 2010 is 9629 and is now 11914 but they have now upped my bill to 95 euro from 31. Seems like a big hike..

it sounds more like they were charging the wrong unit rate on the bill instead of billing for too few units in which case it is entirely their fault and if you have paid for invoices they do not have the right to increase the unit price retrospectively now!

im confused it looks like the rate per unit on both is the same?
