The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Ken Farrell, Norman Adams, President of Malahide Cricket Club and Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive Officer with Cricket Ireland performed a sod-turning ceremony for the new International Cricket Facility at Malahide Cricket Club in Malahide Demesne on Thursday 28th April 2011. The Mayor welcomed invited guests to the ceremony on behalf of Fingal County Council, saying “Fingal County Council is greatly looking forward to working with Malahide Cricket Club and Cricket Ireland on the development of this facility.”
“The sport of cricket has a long association with Fingal with some of the oldest and longest established clubs based in North Dublin and the sport is very popular in the Fingal Area. It was therefore fitting that the Cricket Club in Malahide Demesne had been chosen as the location for Ireland’s new international cricket facility.”
He continued. In recent years, Ireland’s international cricket team’s successes have increased the general public’s interest in the sport and new clubs are now beginning to form and develop. The new facility here will provide a suitable location to host international matches and provide a venue for the public to see these exciting competitions.
The sod-turning event marks the start of the site works which will eventually lead to the completion of the international facility. Fingal County Council promotes and encourages participation in sport across all ages and communities.
The Sports Office provides a number of Development Officers, with Reinhardt Strydom the current Cricket Development Officer (co-funded by Fingal County Council and Leinster Cricket).

THE recent sunshine and success of the Irish cricket team has brought forward Malahide Cricket Club's preparations for the new season.

This year will see games played on the revamped and extended pitch adjacent to Malahide Castle. The final ground work is due to be completed in the coming weeks, with construction fencing being removed, allowing the club to get ready for games in the village.

In all, the club will play more than 160 matches this summer between 12 boys' and girls' teams, five men's and two ladies' teams. The club is always looking for new members at any age group, regardless of cricketing experience or otherwise, and mid-week training will start in late April.

In addition there will be various representative games during the summer months. The club has a full-time Cricket Development Officer working with the Swords and Malahide schools, who will be getting children out playing fun cricket in the yard during the coming weeks and months.

The club is also assisting Malahide Community School with their first-year girls' and boys' teams in the forthcoming Leinster Schools League. In addition the traditional Easter Camp for six to 13year-olds commences next Tuesday and runs throughout that week.

Last year more than 150 children enjoyed what proved to be a fun-filled camp for both old hands and new inductees to the game. April will also see the start of games, with teams from Cork, Wexford and Mullingar all visiting the club.

If you are interested in getting involved in playing cricket, you can visit http://www.malahidecc.com or pop into the club any evening.
