Has anyone used used the atm card available with goforless? Is this a good option for managing money while on a J1?

    Thanks.

Without knowing anything about it I would say it's expensive. Most J1 related things are and go4less are out to make as much money off you as possible. Is it a Visa or what? You're probably safer going with a regular ATM. You should be able to open an American account too if you need to. I remember a visa agency wanted to open a bank account for me a few years back and were charging me for it whereas opening a back account is free.

Dory, thanks for the reply. Ya im goin on a J1 visa and dont want to worry about bringin caah with me. I think i cost $20 for the card but there is no charges for going to atms or transferring money onto the card. I jus presumed i would be charged a lot of money to use my irish debit card over there.

Ok, well then it sounds good. Just make sure they're not getting the commission off you some other way, like a terrible exchange rate. Those companies are there to make money from you, not help out students in the US (not that banks are charities). It may work out cheaper than using your Irish debit card so.
