    Hi, theres a few of us thinking of going over to ios for the month of July for a holiday but to also get some kind of work to keep ourselves!Anyone here have any advice?
    As ios doesn't have an airport it seems that the cheapest way to go would be to fly into Athens and then get the ferry over,has anyone any experience doing this?
    From reading old posts about ios some people mentioned that when you arrive off the ferry there are a lot of people there offering you accommodation and I was wondering is this still the case?We are finding it difficult enough to find cheap accommodation over there but at the same time we are not to keen on just arriving there and hoping to land on our feet with a nice cheap apartment.If anyone has any information on cheap accommodation on the island it would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    No advice on the job-hunting bit - obviously beach bars/cafes/bars and taverns/restaurants hire a lot of people from April to October, but then again by July most places would be fully equiped and particularly in Ios - and other ''high'' party profile islands - personnel would be relatively experienced. I guess you could always ask once you're there, starting from the landlord/receptionist at your accommodation. Often the way things work at small places is through someone suggesting a relative/friend who needs personnel. Also, maybe checking online if places look for personnel.

    Getting to Ios from Pireaus is very easy and getting to Pireaus from the airport is even easier through underground/overground/suburban. Journey time about 45 mins. There is absolutely no reason to catch a taxi from the airport to the port as it would cost you more and take longer. I wouldn't really hassle myself trying to get a connecting flight to a nearby island as it wouldn't really save you time, unless you can get a direct/charter flight from Dublin to a nearby island and then catch a local ferry/boat to Ios.

    Accommodation is not that hard to find and surely there will be places available even at the very last minute, but if you want to get a nice place that will be fairly priced I would suggest booking it before arriving as it can be quite tiring after your flight-train to port-ferry to go around looking for a place. Usually, in most Greek islands there are travel agencies at the port so you can always ask there and maybe during high season people from hotels or rent-a-rooms would be there too, but in the glory days of internet, I believe you could get your deal online.

    On this website you can get info and links on Ios [just chose Ios on the drop down menu on the right];
    http://www.cyclades-tour.gr/Default.aspx?ID=59830

    Also here, a directory of accommodation;
    http://www.iosgreece.com/ios_hotels.php
    http://www.iosholiday.com/index_accommodation.htm

    Mind you, I haven't used the above 2 websites myself, just did a quick search and they came up. I would suggest bargaining a bit on whatever price they mention - you are looking for a room for a significant amount of days [which on the other hand might make it harder to find the longer it takes you to book it as places will naturally start booking]. Also, if you were looking to work to a beach bar or a hotel or something like that, they could be in a position to offer you accommodation - and it is something common, knowing from friends - however this would generally apply to people planning to spend the most part of the high season [June-August the least] there and also working pretty much full-time.

    In any case, I think you'll have a great time and even if you don't plan everything in advance the beauty of the Greek way of being relaxed should not let you down and help you get sorted quicker than you think.
