Really the Queen's first visit to Ireland?

As the title suggests, I'm wondering if her upcoming visit really is her first time in the country? I'm thinking that she may have visited before but not as a state visit. Maybe an informal visit or something. She's pretty old and I find it hard to believe she's never been here, considering we're so close (geographically). Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm just curious I supose.

Afaik she has never set foot in the republic before. Other members of the British royal family have been here numerous times but never the Queen. She has however visited Northern Ireland on numerous occasions, so she has been on this island before.

Yea, I should probably clarify, I mean the Republic. I just assumed that she would've been here at some stage. Surely she has contacts/friends/acquaintances here. Before she was queen even.

She was very young when she became queen (and with it, head of state) so I'd say it's entirely possible that she has never visited the Free State/later RoI.

According to this article she has been:
The queen has visited Ireland dozens of times over the past 59 years.

Doesn't give any details however, and his articles (like this one) are meant to be humerous so don't know if he's just making it up.

I presume that refers to NI?

Perhaps this is for another thread, but this would seem to present a dilemma for those who object to the visit as many of them would insist that Ireland is one country. Ergo nothing novel or noteworthy happening later this month?

When lizzy gets here you should be aware if you seem like you are rioting get ready to be lasted with water guns.

Gardaí have borrowed riot-control water cannons from the PSNI ahead of Queen Elizabeth’s visit later this month.

She is due to arrive on May 17th, the first time a British head of state has visited the Republic since independence.

While the visit is viewed in most quarters as an historic juncture in Anglo-Irish relations, there are concerns dissident republicans may try to disrupt the events.

    Hopefully her only visit.

    7. Her real name is Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg Gotha

I'm reasonably sure thats incorrect and its Von Saxe-Coburg Gotha. Which is, it has to be said, a fairly cool name.
