Start work - lose benefits?

    Hi,

There was an error with processing my claim (I was assessed for JSA not JSB) and it is currently under appeal with the likelihood being that I will be entitled to JSB for the last 4 months.

If I start a job now, before the appeal is decided, will I lose all the accrued benefits (assuming that the appeal is decided in my favour?).

I can't really afford to lose all that money as I've borrowed an amount comensurate with the benefits that I would have received and it needs to be paid back.

    Thanks for your help,

    jmcj

If you win your appeal you will get all moneys owed up to the date you sign off.

Were you receiving any payment of Supplementary Welfare Allowance from your Community Welfare Officer pending the decision? If so, any money paid would be deducted from any backdated claim. If not, and if you would meet the means test, then you could be applying for it now (at least until you re-start employment) rather than borrowing money.
