Man found ‘crucified’ in Gyeongsang Province

A taxi driver was found dead on a cross in a closed quarry mine in a northern city of Gyeongsang Province, SBS reported Tuesday. His posture has shocked many as it was akin to a crucified Jesus.

When police found him Tuesday his hands and feet were nailed to the plank while his body was tied to the cross. He also wore something similar to the crown of thorns on his head. He was wearing only underwear and had a wound on his right rib.

The police identified him as a 58-year-old taxi driver surnamed Kim and found tools such as hammers and a drawing plan for the cross nearby the site where Kim lived. A whip was also found, which appeared to have been used to lash his body, and instructions on how to hang himself on the cross.

An acquaintance of Kim, a former pastor, told police that Kim visited him once and talked about religion. He said Kim had some extreme views toward religion.

There's a rapidly growing minority of fundamentalist Christian / Christian-like people in Korea and it has continually gotten worse in the past few years.

I believe that such fundamentalism has a unique avenue here that is unavailable to it elsewhere because of the culture and history. It's why democracy existed in name alone until quite recently in the South and still exists in name only in the North.

There are dozens of christian-like religions here that, while small, still exist and still grow no matter how crazy their beliefs are.

There's a politician here who has convinced a large percentage of his constituents that he is the christian god. Not jesus, but god himself. He just released a rap song (I'll link it if you wish) and has promised to give all newly-weds a million dollars if he becomes president which he is running for next election.

Buddhist temples and to a lesser extent Catholics and other christians (such as anglicans) have been destroyed and attacked. There are regular prayer meetings calling for god to burn down all the 'wrong' places of worship and to punish the 'infidels' (some mainstream christians included)

I am not blaming christians for this or christianity because it's obvious that if it were islam or some other belief system to come to Korea first it would have ended up the same way.

I'm not posting this to attack christianity, I'm posting this because people don't realise what is happening over here. Sure the majority of christians here are good decent people but there is a large minority who are as fundamentalist as any suicide bomber in Gaza.
