Currently shooting in prone air rifle competition. Scores are a little out of sync with his 42nd shot showing on target but the score only for the first 41 totalled.

Currently in 4th place with 410/410 - 42nd shot looks like it squeaked a 10.0 but not confirmed yet.

    Think the 47th is a 9 :(

Yep it was. Now on 539/540 and dropped from 4th to twelfth place - which may well change when inner tens are counted. Needs to finish all good tens to give himself a chance.

Finished with a 9 on his last shot :(

Score 598/600 and 18th overall out of 72. Standard extremely high with three on 600 and eight on 599.

First time competing in ths event anywhere, so an excellent start :)

Sixth on his own relay as well as 18th overall. Really excellent stuff for Sean. This is a big step towards him competing in the paralympics next summer.

Just to note that he's also shooting in the 50m three positions event tomorrow and the 50m prone on sunday, so plenty yet to come from him!

Seán's 3P is at 15.30 our time tomorrow and 50m prone at 10.30 our time Sunday. Seán missed a shoot-off today by only a single point. Good news is he surpassed a minimum qualifying score (MQS) 594 for the London paralympics, which is an important goal when seeking a placement.

Great to hear. I'll be finished my morning exam and can keep an eye on the scores as they come in. :)

Sean got through the elimination round of the 50m 3x40 yesterday in 26th place with a score of 1051. Qualification round for the final was this morning and he finished in 21st with a 1083. MQS for the paralympics is 1080, so that's a second MQS for him.

He must be very tired at this stage having shot air rifle standing 60 shots finishing 32nd, Air rifle prone; finishing 18th and 3x40 Elim and Qual; finishing 21st. That's 360 match shots in three days with another possible 120 shots tomorrow if he gets through the elimination round.

This is a World Cup, so there are competitors from USA, China, Australia, Europe and the Middle East taking part. It doesn't get any more competitive.

From the Paralympics Ireland facebook page:
Sean Baldwin Has Achieved An MQS for London 2012
by Paralympics Ireland on Friday, 06 May 2011 at 15:44

Sean Baldwin has achieved an MQS (Minimum Qualification Score) for London 2012 in his first IPC Shooting event in Alicante, Spain.

Sean shot a score of 598/600 in the 10m air rifle prone event yesterday, tying his score with the current Paralympic champion and narrowly missing out on the shoot-off for the final by 0.1 points. This is a fantastic result for his first Paralympic event and augurs well for his bid to qualify for London. Sean has settled well into the competition and feels confident ahead of his final two events.

Hopefully Sean will be Ireland’s first shooting athlete at London 2012.
