Hi, worlds apart jeep or car help me chose .
I was sick of that snow we got in December and January and said
the next thing im buying is a jeep .im driving a toyota avensis 1.8 oil burner 2004 at the moment have it the last four years never gave trouble except eats oil.Anyway im thinking of either getting a honda crv 2007 2.2 diesel reason been so im not getting stuck again in the bad weather plus i would like the bit of height head says go with the honda.
Then on the other hand i really like the Skoda Octavia RS 2.0 TDI hart says go for it .Then i think mmm honda badge reliably, skoda im no snob but i like hassle free motoring not saying skodas are not good sure every second taxi is one id be keeping which ever one for about 4 years .
pros and cons would be much appreciated.

unless you live in the middle of nowhere and need the jeeps ground clearance i'd go for the skoda (typical eh?)

looks sharp, probably a better thing to drive, probably cheaper to run, cavernous boot :P and with the 5k you saved not buying the honda you can buy a spare set of wheels and winter/ snow tires for the skoda so you dont get stuck this year in the likely big freeze and still have around 4500 left over.

Honda CRV's are sh*t in the snow , go for the Octavia there a fantastic car , thats more or less a VW with a Skoda badge.

That engine in the vRS is the PD engine and are fairly prone to DPF problems if driven too slow or lots of stop start short trips.

    Otherwise
    As andyseadog said
With the money saved.Buy a set of steel wheels or a nice second hand set of alloys and put winter tyres on it.

    You will like it.

With respect, that makes no sense. If you're worried about snow then buy winter tyres. An Octavia on winter tyres will far outperform a RAV4 on summers.

Another begruding vote for the Skoda here.

By the way OP, I never knew there was such a thing as a 1.8 diesel Avensis - when did Toyota sell that ;) ?

+1 for the rs with winter rubber in the shed for the 3 weeks you'll need them

    Has to be the vRS.

If you're going for the Skoda you may as well try and find a common rail engined model. It's more reliable than the old PD engine and a better drive. Might be a few k more but as you were considering the CRV at a higher price it might be a possibility. The came out mid-08.

If you read his post properly, you'll see he describes a 1.8 petrol engined Avensis which burns oil. (A very common fault on the vvti engines)

No contest - VRS all the way.
Honda will let you down in a big way when you hit the snow, compared with the winter rubber on the skoda.
Outside of the ride height, the Skoda is a better car in every other department. Just make sure you get a common rail engine.

Keep avensis + second set of alloys with winter tyres + good garage jack + good gloves if you afraid of some dirt + ?????? = profit and alot of profit.

Jeep on summer tyres will be even worse then avansis on summer tyres...
