    Hey,

I am on the market for one of the above.

    I have a budget of between €10K to €15K.

I would prefer a coupe to a convertible.

Which car would you choose and why?

Or is there anything else out there I may consider! :)

    Thanks in advance.

The z4 coupe is 3.0 or 3.2 only. The tt is best as a coupe

So if you want a coupe, buy a tt, if you want a ragtop, get the z4, or a late mx5 or even better, a Honda S2000

The new TT also mainly comes with the VW-Audi 2.0L TFSI engine which delivers good power and good MPG. 200bhp give or take. The BMW 3.0 gives you 268 bhp.

    Miles per gallon per parkers.co.uk

    Audi: 36mpg
    BMW: 32mpg

This doesn't seem right to me and I would think that the BMW would not get such high MPG.

If you choose the Audi, you'd also have lower motor tax as it was based on the capacity of the engine back then. The 3 litre in the BMW will cost quite a bit.

at the moment there is one mark 2 TT (a 06) for sale at the top of your budget, so unless you go for that you are most likely looking at a MK1 at closer to 10k and you should get a very good one for that.

If its a TT you are going for, get a 225bhp quattro, in a colour apart from silver if you can, baseball leather is lovely too if you can get it.

You wont get a z4 coupe for 15k, so you are looking at verts. In my opinion the 325 is prolly the best compromise between power and road tax in the z4 if you cant stomach the tax of a 3.0 and want more power than the 2.2.

Is one recommended over the other depending on the answer to that question, or are you gonna tell the OP to forget both and get an Isuzu D-Max instead?

Unfortunately, I mostly see women driving TT's, which is a shame because it's such a powerful car. It needs a man to put down the bloody foot now and again!

I would test drive both first definitely. It's a tough one so I think your own personal preference would be best. Like said above, the TT will have lower tax benefits but what good is it when it's not the car you want?

Yes, but the BMW has a six cylinder engine, and not any old six cylinder engine but a naturally aspirated straight six - that goes a long way towards making up the financial pain of having to tax a three litre engine:)!

If we're going to play prejudice then most i've seen have been driven (slowly) by nervous men. The average Hyundai Coupé driver seems to make better progress!

On of my mates has one and he get 32-32mpg in his on motorway trips and when cruising.

bmw 6 cyl engines are relatively frugal on long runs, the 3.0 wont be much worse than the 2.2. In fact my old e46 m3 would do 30mpg + on longer runs.

Its around town that they will kill you :D

    Hey!

Many thanks for all the posts.

    And for the good advice!

It seems to me that the TT maybe the one.

I am going to test drive one next week.

I never even considered the road tax so thanks for that.......no way will I be forking out for that on a Z4 every year!!!!

    :)

But other buyers will have, so the difference in tax will already be factored into the prices the cars command.

Obligotary "you should consider these" suggestion

    Alfa Brera 2.2

    Porsche Boxter 2.7

    Volvo C70 2.0T

    08 Volkswagen Eos 1.6

The Porsche, OK, but I've never heard a good word about any of the others.

It depends on the OP's requirements. For example, road testers tend to bang on ad nauseum about the C70's 'poor' handling. Is it poor enough to outweigh the good seats for the average owner? I doubt it. Because - news flash - very few coupés get driven hard.:)

Actually no, with those two cars there's really no difference, although the engine in the BMW might be a bit big for some. Nice car but I'd tell the wife to get the TT.

Not unless they need it for work, and are in construction or something.

Who doesn't! Just like clothes, some cars are designed for men, some for women, some for both. Not everyone looks good in a pink Fiat 500 you know!

I don't, and I doubt i'm alone here. Because we're enthusiasts - for us, a car is something to enjoy driving, not a trinket with which to impress the neighbours.

Not everyone on this forum is a car enthusiast. A lot come on here looking for basic advice as they know very little about cars.

I'm male, and own a bright red mini, and I think the 500 is cool. I don't like pink cars, but then I know lots of girls who don't like them either.

    Hey!

    Thanks for all the posts.

I really had not looked or even thought of any of the other cars mentioned here as i am clueless about what is actually out there!

My search now has been made harder!!!

If your over 5'6 you'll look like a contortionist squeezing yourself in and out of one.

Great car for the weekends, as a daily....no.

There's plenty of power in that VAG 2.0 TFSI though and for better mileage.

That engine could easily be tuned to outpower the 3.0 BMW engine.

If you're interested in a coupe/soft top and not bothered about power, this is what you're offered with:
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Audi/TT/2.0-TFSI/201112201744260/advert?channel=CARS
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/Z4/Sport-Ro/201109201422280/advert?channel=CARS

I know which I'd take :pac:

If you want power, who would take the TT over this:
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/Z4/M-ROADST/201114201944896/advert?channel=CARS

Mk2 TT seems very expensive for what you get to be honest.

Something nagging in my head would have me take the TT over the Z4.

That Z4 M is a really nice car. Pity we don't have the weather for it.

TT is more practical, apparently worse to drive(especially in FWD form), but faster and a bit more expensive.
Personally, I think the z4 is a really stunning car and the Gen 2 TT one of the blandest coupes around but YMMV. The z4 coupe is beautiful but rare and far outside the OP's budget.

Ok that's true, it's not to comfy car but is realy fast and pretty efficient : )

If you will be buying TT take one with quattro.

Not true. I'm 5' 11" and just jump in ant out. Design spec for the S1 Exige was for someone well over 6 foot, I think 6' 3" or 6' 4" wearing a crash helmet. You do need a bit of practice though. Biggest trouble is the fact that you need space to open the doors fully.

Ok but i didn't meant how tall you can be just how hard suspension is set. ;d
