The following starts off seemingly rather sensible until you finally realise that the man at the centre of the story is evidently a homegrown David Icke type figure, one who was hugely impressed by Jim Corrs ravings on Matt Cooper a few years back.

He was a senior civil servant in the Department of Finance until they got rid of him in 2009.

That site seems to be the property of some Jeremy James character who has latched on to Pye's divergence from reality, if indeed those comments attributed to him in Scribd by James were in fact put about by him.

Anyone got an email link for Pye in case this is some sort of elaborate character assassination? Not that I particularly care, its not like the department listened to him one way or the other.

Dear lord. Paper never refused ink or keyboards never refused keystrokes in this instance. To be quite honest though it doesn't really shock me that there were lunatics of this calibre in the DOF, they probably should have given him more power, he couldn't have done much worse.

Does anyone ever deal with an issue in our PS or just fart around it leaving a bad smell. I await P breathanachs post to try and explain all this and absolve the DoF of any and all culpability while blaming the system and ignoring the fact that they are the system

In the interests of 'balance' I would point out that the allegedly sane, lavishly overpaid and gloriously well pensioned John Hurley was governor of the Central Bank during the bubble and singlehandedly did more than anybody to destroy his country.

John Hurley was previously secretary of the department of Finance and was Robert Pyes boss.

To be fair, Assistant Principal is hardly a 'senior' official - particularly in the Department of Finance, where that's probably the most common grade. Middle management is more appropriate. Principal Officer - the next grade up - is generally reckoned to be the first 'senior' grade.

This guy was hardly the only person in D/Finance talking about the bubble - from 2004/5 onwards it was all a lot of people in Finance would talk about. Very few tried to get articles published in national news papers while serving officials though!
