hi, i already have a website online and i'm planning on adding a section to it that will allow me to sell direct from it. i'd prefer not to give the name of the website.

i was wondering how easy or difficult it is to add a section so that people can buy items paying with credit cards or via pay pal. i would also like to add a section so that people can post ads on the site again using credit cards, pay pal or by phone. is this hard to set up, who do i have to get to set it up.?

i would also like the website to be higher up on the google list, how do i go about this.?

    thanks for your time..:)

If you just want it through Paypal then thats easy enought to setup.
All you'd need is a Shopping Cart, Paypal Account and details of the bank account you want to tie to the paypal account to withdraw your money to.
Adverts could be sold like "products" through paypal and after they pay for them then you would design them and put them up on the website.

You need someone who can inpliment good SEO to rank you higher.

    You need a Web Developer/Designer.

As suggested by previous poster you need a web developer with a good knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

With SEO you need 2 fundamental things you need decent content and a well constructed page. Its important to identify your keywords early in the development, make sure to ask for some peoples input in the terms that they would search for if looking for your product or service.

Once you have a list of keywords you can determine the competition for those particular keyword phrases, and your SEO company may be able to give you an idea of the number of searches a month for the term.

SEO companies that promise the sun, moon and stars are usually full of crap.

If they guarantee number one spot for a keyword within a few weeks its usually for something obscure that is never searched for anyway.

Regarding accepting payments you mentioned the easiest option to implement which is Paypal, its great starting off as you only pay if you sell something, if you sell expensive items it may take too much of a percentage for you see rates here:
    https://www.paypal.com/ie/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-receiving-fees-outside

An alternative if you have a merchant account with your bank and already accept credit / debit cards is to use a payment solution like Realex.
Its not as easy to set up a shopping cart as with paypal but they accept Laser cards which can be a big advantage.

My last bit of advice may save you a few Euro or it may not but its worth throwing out there. Some local enterprise boards offer grants for website upgrades not sure where you are based so I cant tell you who to talk to but if you have less than 10 employees it may be worth checking with them.
As I said you may not qualify, the area you are in may not offer them, you may not want to deal with them but the likes of the Waterford City Enterprise Board offer something like:
http://www.waterfordceb.com/ecommerce-development.php (Although I think they are changing it).

If you have any questions let me know I will be happy to help you with anything.

hearny, i appreciate the response. a friend of mine has a good knowledge of seo as far as i know so i could contact him to get more info.

i will be planning on accepting pay pal and credit cards so i'll have to have a look into realex as you mentioned.

i am living in tralee, co.kerry so i'll have a talk with my enterprise board.

i'll contact you if i have any more queries. thanks

Good info Hearny. However, for these alterations like using realex payment gateway and advertising modules will need a webdesigner/developer and that's i believe it not just a simple fix for a non-IT guy as such.
