    Hello,

my aunts had same laptop since 2003 ibm thinkpad t23 and worked fine for her till this week but now i am getting the error:

0271 error: check date and time settings.

so i assume it was cmos battery issue, anyway ive since bought a new cmos battery for it and still get the same error message on boot up.

only other thing i can think of is must be motherboard.

anything else i can do to rule out the board. it runs windows xp professional and she does windows updates on a regular basis.

but what about doing a bios update might that help????

    any help on this please.

i'd actually try swapping out the sticks of RAM before i go do anything else actually, now when i came across that issue it was on a desktop pc, but im just throwing this out there as the same may apply, dodgy RAM, take out one stick at a time and try swap them around in their slots...
